Re: Anyone sneak in some alcohol on induction?
I know some people that did. I have a drink every now and then but I waited until after induction. Obviously its not recommended but its your choice what you want to do. I would really try and hold off if you can but if you do decide to drink, stick with things like vodka and soda which has zero carbs.Vanessa

Re: Anyone sneak in some alcohol on induction?
Of course people did. That's why Dr. Atkins wrote:
The question then becomes, if you're fat enough to have to go on a weight loss diet, why would you want to do anything to delay losing your fat? Why would you want to do anything to potentially sabotage your weight loss effort? Is having a drink more important to you then losing weight and getting healthy? Those are the questions you have to ask yourself. If you aren't worried about delaying your weight loss or you aren't concerned that you are sabotaging your efforts or a drink is more important to you than losing weight and getting healthy, then you'll drink whether it delays your weight loss or not.The body burns alsochol for fuel when alcohol is available. So when it is burning alcohol, you body will not burn fat. This does not stop weight loss, it simply postpones it.~Megs~

I agree with Megs. Step back and ask yourself if that drink is really needed/worth it? Me personally, I dont put that poison in me body for over 2 1/2 years now,(and counting I might add). But unless you are addicted to it and need to stop th eshakes or something, I wouldnt do it. God Bless,Joe

I wonder if sugar alcohols have the same side effect which would explain why some people stall when eating frankenfood replacement bars and such...Eric

Re: Anyone sneak in some alcohol on induction?
That's an interesting thought but the body processes sugar alcohols much differently than simple alcohols like ethanol. Sugar alcohols are polyols and are much more complex molecules. Some of them like erythritol and xylitol are all natural and have a lot of health benefits - much better for you than splenda which is artificial. Sorry about the nerd-out. I studied forensic science in grad school for the past two year so I took lots of organic chem and biochem.Vanessa

Re: Anyone sneak in some alcohol on induction?
In every other "diet" I've done, I've always treated myself to some alcohol, I did the Bacardi and Diet Soda thing...
But honestly, I never really had any remarkable success -- until now, and this is the only time I've really kept it by the book.
So to answer your question, yes, I had results even when having some liquor, but I've had even better results when I avoid it.
I live in North America's party capital....it's hard to avoid alcohol when the bars are open 24 hours and there's always someone you know in town ready to party and have a few drinks. In the past it was hard to avoid, but like Megs said, this time I chose to put my health and weight loss above all. Now, I try my hardest to avoid going out to such events all together, I'd rather not have to deliberate over it. Although, I have told myself that if it came down to it, I would hold a cocktail glass with ice water and a straw and sip on that to fit in socially.
Hope that helps?!

Re: Anyone sneak in some alcohol on induction?
Sugar alcohols and alcohol (like ethanol or methanol) aren't the same thing, but are similar. To make a really long and tedious biochemisty explanation short, an alcohol is a molecule with an "O-H" group stuck on it in a specific place on the molecule. "O" is oxygen and "H" is hydrogen. So ethanol (the stuff found in booze and in biofuels) has this O-H group stuck on it in that specific place, as does mannitol, a sugar alcohol, or maltitol, another sugar alcohol. Also do you notice a pattern here? The alcohols all end in the letters "ol"--- ethanOL, mannitOL, maltitOL.Originally posted by Greeneggs&ham View PostI wonder if sugar alcohols have the same side effect which would explain why some people stall when eating frankenfood replacement bars and such...
The OH group stuck onto the sugar alcohol molecules supposedly prevents that molecule from being broken down and/or absorbed by your body. But in the case of ethanol or even methanol (which is poisonous and you shouldn't be drinking in the first place!), the body IS able to breakdown the molecules. Ethanol is a toxin and needs to be broken down in your liver in order for your body to get rid of it.
By the way, all those "heart healthy" benefits of drinking alcohol daily is a tight rope walk. If you drink 1 "drink" daily for a woman and 2 "drinks" daily for a man, you lower your heart disease risk factors. If you exceed those amounts, you actually increase your heart disease risk factors. That's why if I ever get enough money, I'm going to invest it in pharmaceutical companies---with the number of binge drinkers in the college aged students, I figure their hearts and bodies will give out sooner than expected and the pharmaceutical companies will be forced to develop "life saving" medications for them.
1 drink is 5 fliud ounces non-fortified wine, 3.5 ounces fortified wine (sherry, port, etc.), 1.5 ounces hard liquor, 12 ounce beer. So if you're a male and you pour down 3 beers daily, your heart disease risk has increased.~Megs~

Re: Anyone sneak in some alcohol on induction?
Hi there,
I came home from work yesterday and as i do every friday went straight for a vodka..which i normally mix with diet cola..I had some coke zero in the fridge and threw some into the drink. I drank it with pure guilt...every mouthful was agony..I went to get a second and poured the vodka, then added tap water and a drizzle of the diet soda, took one sip and poured it down the sink...I actually didnt want it!
I think if you really want to have a drink do but you may find that half way through your body tells you dont actually want it...your cravings are subsiding which is what i make of what happened me...I would normally be miserable if i didnt have my friday few drinks
Its your diet and your life so try not to feel guilty about it or let other peoples opinions upset you... Your either following the diet strictly or loosly... either way will benefit your health once you are eating better than you were before hand.
Best of luck and keep strong.....
There is a skinny girl inside me screaming to get out but the carbs wouldnt let her....I want to know what it feels like not to have to breathe in to look slimmer all the time...I want to breathe out and not look 6mths pregnant..

Re: Anyone sneak in some alcohol on induction?
That's so true! I always want bread when I'm hungover! I always justified that by thinking that the bread would just absorb the excess alcohol, but I'm not really sure why. Also, I'm like you where I go off plan, like getting really hungry after a night out and drinks and simply not caring about all the effort thus far and just wanting that burger and fries LOL. Although, you and I are probably on the same boat altogether, I'm in Vegas as wellOriginally posted by IrishSarahHB View PostI used to .. but every time i drink i end up going off my diet .. EVERY TIME usually the next day when im hung over and want some bread.. Then i end up eatting carbs for a few days and have to stART ALL OVER ..
Id say avoid it!
