    Hello everyone,
I am in day 12 of induction. I am down 1 1/2-2 sizes already. On the scale all I see is a 10 pound weight loss. I am wondering if my LARGE (32 oz) SUGAR FREE VANILLA ICED COFFEE with three spoons of half-half (3 carbs) is stalling my weight loss? I also like to drink about one 20 oz bottle of diet pepsi in the afternoon. This is the second time I am doing induction and the first time a few years ago.....I also did drink all these diet drinks but I had faster results. The book says no COFFEE....but I really really really enjoy my morning iced coffee....because FLORIDA is super hot in the summer time. I need some of your feedback please

    Re: Coffee Addiction

as per the book, rule #10 of induction,

"Avoid coffee, tea and soft drinks that contain caffeine. Excessive caffeine has been shown to cause low blood sugar, which can make you crave sugar."

decaf is acceptable but should not be counted towards your minimum daily 64 oz. of water. no more than 3 packets of sweetner should be used in a day. 20 oz of diet soda is, to my knowledge, 2.5 servings.

      Re: Coffee Addiction

10 lbs in 12 days is great!!!! congrats!!!!! the 2nd(or 3rd or 4th...etc.) time around the weight is going to come off slower atleast for most people. i would strongly suggest dropping any caffeinated(sp) drinks. caffeine is a known staller. however, seeing as you are only on day 12, i wouldn't necessarily consider you stalled, Dr atkins describes a stall as no inches or weight loss in 4 weeks or more.

hope this helps and best wishes to you on your journey,

      monie

Thank you Monie and Jimmie. I appreciate it! I know that sugar free stuff is supposed to make you crave carbs or sugar...but thankfully I don't have that problem. Thanx again.

I'm wondering how you can know that it is not slowing your losses? Have you ever tried it without the caffeine? You started out at 371 pounds and have lost 44 pounds since April. How do you know that if you actually followed the diet the way it was written that you wouldn't have lost even more? You don't exercise, you don't ditch the caffeine. All you do is watch your food intake. Do you drink water or do you consider that unnecessary, too?

            Sunny!

              Re: Coffee Addiction

              Hello and congrats!
In the summer now I typically get iced decaf myself, usually black, a few times a week. If you really think you need it, you can ween down to a little bit and see if you can even drop it. For the most part now I drink water. I gave up diet soda. I figure I am going through a major change in lifestyle so why not try to follow the plan to increase my odds of success? Not clear if you are exercising...I have found this to be the true silver bullet to immediate and more importantly lasting success.

I was that same way, hated coffee, until my brother gave us some 'gourmet' beans and small grinder. Changed my life--but maybe not in a good way. That was 20 years ago. I drink a lot of coffee to this day.

                    Re: Coffee Addiction

i personally love coffee. the taste, the smell, everything.
as this is a WOL for me, i've decided to not eliminate it from my every day as i truly enjoy a cup in the morning.
however that being said i have taken my consumption down a fair bit, and am limiting myself to just one a day and keeping the cream and splenda to a bare minimum.
i also drink around 100 oz of water a day, which helps i think.

my only advice is to stay clear of the sugar free syrups as you can't monitor that nearly as well as when you put in the sugar yourself. other than that your results are great!!

                      Hi there,

I couldnt live without a cup of coffee, I used to take it with two large sugars and alot of milk..people would ask "do you take coffee with your milk and sugar?" but now I have 1 cup of black coffee with no milk and no sugar and even tho it took some getting used to I am five days in and it hasnt bothered me in the slightest i actually feel better after drinking it than I ever had with all that added sugar and carb!

Have a cup if you really need it but cut down as much as possible!

                      Best of luck
There is a skinny girl inside me screaming to get out but the carbs wouldnt let her....I want to know what it feels like not to have to breathe in to look slimmer all the time...I want to breathe out and not look 6mths pregnant..

Thank you for your input everyone. It seems that maybe if it's not so bad to drink coffee unless it actually makes you crave carbs. After reading all the responses....I have decided that I am sticking to my iced coffee....I really don't think I can give it up....at least there is a lot of ice in there!

I really think coffee and tea caffeine reactions are very individual to each person. If it causes insulin spikes and cravings, then you need to stop drinking it. I stopped twice, for up to 8 weeks one time, but I do better drinking my 2 small cups of coffee in the morning and green and white tea after that. I didn't include soft drink caffeine because it has no nutritional value like coffee and tea.

Congrats on the 10 lbs!!! I am on day 8 of induction and cold turkey on the caffiene. The headaches are about gone, my appitite is manageable :0) And I am so thrilled to be 8 days back into this WOL.
I am not sure why I went a head a gave up the coffee, other then it is sugjested to be the best way to go about this. Ive always got my ways of doing things and they have not always proved the best. So some where some how I found the willingness to follow the directions. And for me that is a major accomplishment.
The headaches lasted about 4 serious day. I am still a lil slow to wake, but this am I am going to try a lil morning walk to blow the cob webs outs. Aint it great to be above ground :0)

i love coffee and have quite a few cups with stevia and low carb soy milk. (only 2 carbs per cup!) and since it is something i don't want to give up, i'm not willing to eliminate it. induction is hard enough, i don't need to do everything all at once..
