  • Day 2 - questions!

Hi everyone, I think I'm going to love this Board! You're all so helpful and I've already learned a lot more than I did from reading the book. However I have a few other questions/points I wanted to put to you in the hope that I could get some advice?

    - if I buy cheese that has zero carbs in it (or very very low carbs) is it ok to go over the recommended 4oz or whatever it is a day? Here in the UK we have 'cathedral' cheese that is almost zero carbs, and also Edam which is the same
    - does drinking diet soda actually STOP you losing? Or is it just that it can trigger sugar/carb cravings in some people leading to them struggling? If I can handle drinking diet soda and not having any cravings - and stick to Atkins 100% will that be ok?
    - This one is important!: I'm getting really sick of greasy/fatty food already! The smell of it in my kitchen/house, the oily/greasy feeling in my mouth after a meal just makes me feel bleurgh! Is there anythiing you can recommend? I'm allergic to fish so have to have meat really.
    - I'm pleased to see that I can eat olives - I love them! From looking on the tracker it seems that black olives are better than green? And does it matter which ones I get as long as they're in brine and not oil?

Would really appreciate your comments Before I go, here's my plan for yesteray (day 1)

    breakfast
    ---------
    3 eggs scrambled
    1 beef sausage
    2 rashers bacon

    lunch
    -----
(was in meetings all day so struggled to eat much)
    2 slices cold ham
around 4 oz zero carb cheese
    1 large slice cold chicken
    some mayo spread on them

    dinner
    ------
    large steak
    rasher bacon
    3 egg cheese omelet

I know what you'll tell me - NO VEG AT ALL!! Ooops. I really thought it might help not to have any but I'm about to nip down to the shop and buy some peppers, brocolli, cauliflower and lettuce. And olives! Oh and I like the idea of celery in cream cheese so will try that too.

    Bye for now!

3-4 ounces is the limit for cheese. And Dr. Atkins wrote that each ounce of cheese is to be counted as 1 net carb. So don't go over that amount.

The diet soda issue...Dr. Atkins said to avoid caffeine because it may cause unstable blood sugar which may cause weight loss difficulties. Also he said to avoid aspartame for the same reason. So if you do choose to drink diet soda be aware of this. Also, you are only allowed 3 servings of artificially sweetened foods per day. Therefore, you do need to be aware of that limit. Furthermore, there is also a "daily water intake" goal of at least 64 fluid ounces daily (which is roughly 2 liters). According to the book, the only thing that counts towards that water intake is water.

Greasy food---why is your food greasy? I eat roasted or poached chicken, but I make sure to eat a little bit of fat with it. For example, poached chicken breast with a piece of tarragon flavored butter or roast chicken with a bit of chipotle flavored mayonnaise. I eat boiled eggs too. Eggs have a high fat content so you really don't need to add more fat when you eat them.

Olives---i think it is what you prefer to eat. However, olives are listed in the "Special Category Foods" list and are limited to 20 (I think---please double check to make sure). The Special Category foods are put into that category because they might cause weight loss problems in some people.

And you have covered the vegetable part. Dr.ATkins wrote that the "majority" of our daily carbs must come from vegetables. So if you are eating a total of 18 net carbs daily, at least 10 of them must be from the vegetables.

Thanks for all your help megs I will take it easy with the olives and make sure I stick to 4oz cheese. I think I'd been having too much bacon/scrambled egg/omelettes which is what seemed to be too greasy. I'll stick to drier ways of cooking I think.

You've done brilliantly! I hope I can stick it long enough to get used to it and see some results

        Re: Day 2 - questions!

More on the diet pop...it has been known to cause cravings in some people and then in the next person none at all. Even if it doesn't cause cravings it can still stall some people. So it really is something that you are going to have to learn for yourself. I like to recommend that induction be done with no artificial sweetners just in case it does affect a person and also to help cut the 'sweet' addiction. And to help give a person a chance at the greatest weight loss the first two weeks.

Add the veggies. No choice there. It doesn't have to be salad...just salad veggies.

Lots of people here use www.fitday.com to keep track of their carbs. Ideally when the day is done is should be about 30%protein/5%carbs/65%fat. It doesn't mean adding grease to everything. Your cheese has some and the eggs are almost a perfect food and your meat. And your salad dressing or dip once you add some veggies.

Drink your water. Take your measurements as lots of times you lose inches and not pounds..or vice versa.
