  • HELP!!! Starting using FitDay and am having problems with 65/35/5 ratio?

I started using Fitday to track the food I eat, and it seems I am having difficulty with getting the ratios of 65%fat/35%protein/5% fat. Here is a snap shot of my chart for the day of having breakfast and lunch thus far. I would appreciate any ideas on what to have for dinner to make sure I come close to the 65/35/5 ratio. I also bought the ketone sticks and did one yesterday afternoon and one again first thing this morning...both were in the dark purple or "large loss of ketones" range.

I would love to hear what others do to keep as close to the ratio as possible. Will too much fat stall weightloss?

    Breakfast:
2 extra large eggs, fried in
    1 tbls of Canola oil
    5 slices of bacon, crispy
    1 oz gouda

    Lunch:
    3 oz of turkey with
    1 oz cream chees
1 C mushrooms (I weighed them, so I know I got exactly the 96 grams) sauteed in
    2 tbsp butter

Dinner? don't know yet, I'm on the west coast...

The 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs ratio though often discussed is not a requirement, but was arrived at by a Duke's University analysis of the induction menus given by Dr Atkins as far as I know.

I imagine before programmes like fitday were around no-one would have even known what calories they were eating, let alone the ratios, so don't worry too much over them at the moment as long as you are eating according to the rules in DANDr you should be fine.

I know that when I started induction all I used was a notebook and the carb counts in my copy of DANDR and all I tracked was net carbs. It wasn't till I joined ADBB nearly a year later that I discovered fitday and started using it to calulate my menus.

It was probably a few months later that I read about the ratios, and on looking back at previous months' menus I found that my ratios were somewhere near that 65/30/5 percentage without trying.

It is possible to eat too much food in general on Atkins and gain weight, but usually this only happens when people mistake 'eat till not hungry' for 'eat till absolutely stuffed' or believe the old tales about Atkins being the 'all the meat and cheese you can eat' diet!

Thewre is an interesting sticky in this forum about how much fat to eat, and you might be surprised at how little changes you need to make to get your ratios down to the 65/30/5 if you want. Just having one less tablespoon of butter can drastically alter them!

Try entering a meal into the next day of your fitday account when you have some spare time to play and see what difference arises from reducing or increasing quantities of fat to get the hang of it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: HELP!!! Starting using FitDay and am having problems with 65/35/5 ratio?

        Elizellen,
First of all you look great, congrats on your weightloss and being able to keep it off. Your stats are a huge motivator for me, that this can be done.

Thanks too for the info re: the 65/30/5 ratios. I'm trying to stay as close to that as I can, and I need to figure out what I am doing to have my fat ratio closer to the 73% area. In reality I'm probably over calculating how much fats I use. For example, I fry my eggs in 1 tbsp of canola oil, but I'm sure I don't use all of the oil as there is always some left in the frying pan, but I still count it as 1 tbsp anyways. I have a digital scale so I weigh everything from veggies, cheeses and even meats just to get an idea of how many oz I"m eating.

Today is day 7 of induction, and I am down 4.8 lbs. Of course one always hopes to have the maximum weightloss they can and hope for more, but since I am also plagued with hypothyroidism and my levels are optimal yet, I know that isn't helping my weightloss at all. I just had a med increase in July and will see my endocrinolist again in Oct, so I'm feel fortunate that my endo is seeing me every 3 months until my levels are optimal.

I'm also using the LTS strips, and my "output" has been in the large range in the afternoon and evenings. I tested midmorning and it was at the lower end, but still showing that I"m in ketosis. I know the sticks aren't really necessary, but it's a good psychological motivator for me to see a purple stick.

Thanks again and I look forward to reading more of your posts.
