    I am not in Ketosis anymore, Yesterday morning I weighed in at Publix and their scale said I was 179 lbs. this morning I got on my home scale and I weighed 184?!?! What?!?! So, While out today I went to Publix and weighed myself, and it said 184. how is this? 5lbs in one day?

    What am I doing wrong?

    I am going to start induction over again. My husband says maybe Atkins doesn't work for my body anymore. I have done Atkins over and over, over,over again. Lose weight then get off of it and after gaining some back, I get on it again.

    Sounds like you just need some encouragement! If you are eating clean and being truthful in your induction, you will succeed -- just learn to ignore the scale for a bit. Stay encouraged!! The scale can mess you up big time-- go by what your clothes feel like and how you generally feel. Stay the course!

      I've started Atkins about 500 times. Literally. It still works for me, so I can only guess that it would still work for you. I gained a lot overnight from being off wagon (over 5lbs) but blame most of it on water as I went back to induction and lost 3 in under 24 hours.

      Keep in mind, it needs to be same scale, same time of day... and even then it's not completely accurate.

      I'd cut out the candies if that's a possibility though.

        I've been on Atkins for over a month this time. This is the first time I have followed how everyone here says to do it. I have always done atkins by eating as much eggs, cheese, and meats that I wanted and a medium salad a day.
        Meats have always been 0-1 carb nothing more.

        this time around I am doing no more then 4oz of cheese, before i ate as much as I wanted. I always drank Diet soda. This time I drink more water and recently added some Diet rite since it's made with splenda. I would eat sugar free candy, and even low carb ice cream, nightly. this time i won't even buy the ice cream so I am not tempted. But I did buy some sugar free candy, (It makes me stay regular).

        On a normal day I eat 3-4 scrambled eggs. 1-2 oz cheese. with diced ham.
        Lunch- Hamburgers, topped with bacon, lettuce mayo, mustard, and pickle.
        Dinner is chicken strips dipped in egg coated with pork rinds, fried in canola oil. Dipped in mustard, mayo and a little sugar free honey. Spinach about a cup.

        I eat a lot of Wendy's usually 3 Jr. bacon cheeseburgers, no tomatoes no bun and 2 ceasar side salad.
        I probably drink 44oz or less diet rite, and not everyday. Other then that it's water.

        I do not want to stop atkins, I just want it to work. I have not loss any weight in 3 weeks. actually gained a few lbs. Not losing inches either.

        I could weigh around 145 I guess for my height, but for my job I prefer to weigh around 164. I wouldn't mind 169 just not the 170's.

        Thanks for letting me ramble and if you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

          For starters, each can of soda is one sweetener... 44oz is a lot.. and there are sweeteners in the candy (a lot of sweeteners), plus in the honey. I forget how many sweetener servings to have each day, but I am positive it's over the limit.

          While we're not counting calories, that doesn't mean they don't count... Wendys.com has a nutrition calculator... each one of those cheeseburgers (without the bun or tomato) is 190 calories... for the side ceasar salad, I took off the crutons... but the total for your lunch is 950 calories. Each egg is about 100 calories, each tablespoon of mayo is about 100 calories, each ounce of cheese is about 100 calories... and each 1/2oz of pork rinds is about 80 calories. I'm not exactly sure how much you eat, but maybe keeping a log of your food would help to figure out? Dr. Atkins said to eat until satisfied... not full.

          Other than that, exercise will help at any point. It *is* harder to lose weight the more times around, but that doesn't mean that it won't come off, it just means it may take watching things a little more closely. You have 20lbs to lose, not 100, which also makes it harder.

          Hope this helps.

          P.S. - you said you're following how everyone here says to do it, but re-reading the book is always better than going on secondhand information. Induction is *ONLY* supposed to have what's on the acceptable foods list. If you have trouble "staying regular" there are things - like flaxseed or psyllum husks to help out that are better options than sugar-free candy.

            Unless you ate something close to 15, 000 calories over your usual calories today, that 5 pound weight gain isn't fat gain. It's probably water retention and/or whatever you ate. If you weigh yourself then drink 16 ounces of water, then re-weigh yourself, you'll see that you "gained" 1 pound. That's not a worrisome "gain".

            The only thing you're doing wrong is that you allow yourself to be panicked by the scale.

              I noticed you said you have been doing this for a month.. Is it time for T.O.M? I know I put on 7 lbs of water when it happens for me.

              Just a suggestion.

              Also.. I would try to limit the sugar free candies and the diet sodas. These may cause you to stall. Take one out at a time and see if it makes a difference.

              Good luck, I know it can be hard.

                sugar Free Candy is DONE!
                There will not be anymore, neither will there be any diet soda of any kind.

                I never thought of caculating calories. I liked this diet because I did not have to do much besides watch my carb intake. wow, Wendy's has alot of calories. That is my favorite place to eat on the run. It's so easy.

                Michelle- no it's not that time of the month, it's been over for about a week now.

                This morning I had 4 eggs and 1-2 oz cheese. diced ham
                3 jr bacon cheese
                and for dinner I had 2 chicken breast cut up in strips and deep fried with pork rinds. I don't measure the mayo and mustard, I always thought you were allowed to have as much as you like of those. hmmm.

                I have never read the book. I have looked online at acceptable foods and I go by that. Or I read on here for induction friendly recipes.

                I looked online today to order the book today, but haven't found the right place yet.

                  That's completely not what I meant... I didn't mean that you had to calculate everything out as specifically as that... of course you're only supposed to be keeping track of the carb counts, but if your calorie counts are say, 4000 (not that yours are), and you don't exercise or whatever, you can't really expect to lose weight. Does that make sense?

                  SOme people (yours truly included) actually factor in sugar alcohols as carbs for the daily carb counts. I think that if you did this, you would see that you're over the limit, and this would explain why you're out of ketosis... calories don't put you out of ketosis. The calories comment was just a general fyi thing.

                  The book should be really easy to find - eBay, Borders, Barnes&NOble, a used book store?

                    Lyssie,I didn't take it in a bad way... I appreciate your replies!

                    I just checked my ketosis, I am in Moderate, so that is good, I haven't had soda today or sugar free candy. Lots of water to drink.
                    I will give it a few days and weigh myself again.


                    Do I need to measure my mayo, and mustard? I will lay off the suagr free syrup also. I don't use a lot but I doubt I need it anyways.

                          I picked up my copy of the book on Ebay for less than $3, including shipping. Just be sure you search for the right edition... Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition.

                          Lyssie is giving you some good advice. She's a smart cookie -- glad to see you are listening.

                          If you are eating THAT much mayo, you might want to keep track for a day or two just to be sure you aren't going overboard on your calories. Not that you have to "count them," but it's a good idea to know what and how much you're eating to ensure you're not going overboard.

                            To add to what the others have said, extending induction for many weeks past the first two can be counterproductive for those with say less than 50 pounds to lose.

                            From what I have read around these forums and other lowcarb websites many posters find their losses grind to a halt on induction and do not pick up till they move to OWL and start adding more 'good carbs'.

                            After all - unless you intend to eat induction levels and choices for the rest of your life, you will need to learn what foods you can add and how many carbs you can eat and still lose weight and it is better to do that as Dr Atkins suggested while you still have pounds to lose. It is hard to do OWL once you are at or near your goal weight.

                              Only thing I see here is your lack of veggies. You should be having 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of other acceptable veggie or 3 cups of salad veggies. I usually have 2 cups of bag salad with lunch and 1 cup of other veggies with dinner. Dr Atkins suggest getting 12-15 carbs from your veggies during induction. You might try adding them in see if that helps.

                              Eggs 2.4 carbs
                              Cheese 1-2 carbs
                              Ham (what does it say on the package)

                              3 jr bacon cheese 3 carbs ( 1 carb for each slice of cheese)

                              chicken .. 0 carbs.
