  • Induction Buddies 11/30-12/13

    Hi all! I started Atkins in January '08 (almost a year now), and have 30 pounds gone for good now. This summer and fall were pretty crazy for me--I wrote and defended my thesis, moved across the country, and started a new job. So I made the decision to quickly move up the OWL rung and basically go into maintenance for awhile and keep exercising.

    Now I'm ready to start focusing on weight loss again, so I'm going to re-induct and move up the OWL ladder at a proper pace. I'm starting this thread for any of us going through induction who just wants a place to moan about cravings and carb headaches or look for a word of encouragement.

    Here we go!

    Woot!
    I started 12/1 (officially yesterday) and want to go through to 12/14.
    Would love a buddy.

    I'm living/working in South Korea (originally from NY/NJ) and can't really read or write Korean, so my challenge is mostly with the language barrier. It's most problematic when it comes to vegetables and figuring out what the heck they are... anything that's not lettuce or spinach and I'm lost... Oh, well.

    Happy Inducting!

    P.S.:
    What was your thesis topic?

        Great, welcome guys! Woke up this morning and had my turkey-cheese-spinach rollups, yum!

        Focused--I bet food labels would be almost impossible to decipher too, good luck! And my thesis was on the effects of radiation. It was fun but I'm glad it's over!

        Stay clean today!

            Welcome! I really hope the book comes in soon, it's a must-read. These forums have most of the key information though.

            This is a great link--

            Good luck. After the first week, the cravings should start fading and the weight loss should kick in!

              I dont know if there are any charity shops near you, but I often see copies of DANDR for under a pound in our local ones. In fact recently I bought 3 copies for a pound so I have spares to lend or give to anyone interested in learning more about the Atkins WOE
              Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
              Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                Would like to do a clean induction as well. Ate way too many carbs over the holiday weekend. Had coffee today and "Atkins" bar so I will start my clean induction tomorrow. Will you be posting a new thread each day?

                  focus83~ Welcome aboard! I just ordered the book, too.

                  Philliha~ Had a "salmon fritata" for breakfast (left over salmon from dinner) ... Makes me feel so indulgent.

                  Elizellen~ I've seen the book for cheap, too. I got my copy for something like $3...

                  Tuesday~ Happy Inducting!

                  ~~~
                  Slept really well last night. I know it's too early to tell anything, but I've heard people say that they sleep better after starting on the ANA and I'm hoping this will happen for me (as I'm prone to insomnia).
                  From past experience, my biggest Induction problems are staying *ahem* regular and the ketosis breath. I've started drinking mugs of plain hot water to help w. regularity issues and carrying around a little flask of mouthwash to help with the breath (since I'm not sure about carb content in the gum here...)
                  Can feel a bit of the "Induction Flu" coming on, but am hoping to be able to push past it. Haven't had any cravings so far, which is good, but it's still early in the game...
                  Stayin' Clean!
                    Well day 2 is here. I havn't eaten yet, does anyone know if my irregular appetite will be a problem? I hardly ever get hungry in the mornings and usually do all my eating after about 3-4 in the afternoon.
                    Already had 2 pints of water though, I'd forgotton how much water your body needs with this WoE.
                      Im on my second day again cant seem to get passed 3 days on induction. I ordered a copy of the book online and when it arrived they had sent me the cook book. I emailed them and they said i could keep the cook book and that they would resend the original book to me so i get 2 for the price of 1 which is great but cant wait to get my hands on it hoping it will help me along the way through my induction .
                        Divine~ Recommended allowance is 8 eight-oz glasses a day (64 ozs) There are 16 ozs in a pint. (33 ozs in a liter).
                        focus83~ Way to go 2 for 1! Hope the right book arrives soon. I've heard that the 3rd day can be the worst...
                          Good evening all! I hope everyone had a wonderful, clean low carb day! I feel thinner today, but I know that's just a mind trap. I'm going to try really hard to wait to weigh for a week.
                          Tuesday: Welcome to the thread, and I hope you passed on the Atkins bars today. I'm not planning on posting a new thread because it will clog up the board, but if you want to start a "roll call" of sorts, that would be cool!
                          Focused: I had induction flu last night before bed. A tylenol pm knocked it out pretty well. I'm definitely back in ketosis--I forgot what that taste felt like!
                          Devine: I'm drinking a lot of water today too. Also, I'd try really hard to eat breakfast. We're supposed to spread out our carbs over the day and breakfast is a great way to start.
                          Focus: I'm so glad you're getting the right book...it's the best! And make sure you post any yummy recipes you find.
                            Phil~ I know what you mean about "the taste". I was eating dinner last night and realized that spinach (albeit sauteed spinach) tasted sweet to me. Spinach! Imagine.
                            Just woke up and am feeling kinda bleh. I've been wanting to binge on cheese lately. It's tough to keep to 4 oz. Not good. Other than that, I'm doing OK. Am just to punch through this feeling...
