    I am sure I have seen posts around the lowcarb boards from type 1 diabetics who have experienced good effects from Atkins and have been able to reduce their insulin!
    Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
    Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

      elizellen, i had hope so but the endocrinologist said it was a no-go (and atkins himself wrote, one page 109 of DANDR (my now 2nd copy) that it could be dangerous.

      so we're both on diets, he just gets to eat fruit, veggies, whole grains. etc.

        Yeah, its unfortunate, Type 1 is a ***** and generally insulin dependent.

          I get confused too - because I am sure that to get to 20g of carbs easily allows more than 3 cups.

          What is the difference how many cups, if the carb count is within the 20g limit anyway?

          I am on Day 3.. couldn't help but weigy myself, and I have dropped 5lbs in the first 2 days... my husband who is also doing it has dropped 7lb.

            I just try to go thru this as easily as possible and just measure my veggies because we also have to count the sweetener we use (like Splenda) and I can't get by without that stuff, unfortunately. Morning tea with cream and Splenda is something that I just love...and making those mock danish and other things that Splenda goes into. I think as I work thru the rungs, I will reach the point where I have lots more veggies but for now, I'm afraid to not just measure them. That seems to be the easiest thing to do.

              That is a good question. However, most people get carbs from other sources than veggies too in induction, cheese has carbs so do eggs and some people use sweeteners or drink coffee that has carb. Another point is that Atkins wanted us to keep the more glycemic veggies lower (1 cup) in induction. That is the one on the list called "other vegetables" in DANDR. It is important to think about and get used to thinking about the fact that not all carbs are equal - and that some carbs do have more impact on our bloodsugars than others. Also some of the veggies on the list are quite carby - like pumpkin (I love pumkpin) and onions.
              That all being said, the two times I have been on induction I did count carbs rather than cups but I did make sure that I most of veggie carbs came from the salad list. Congrats on your loss Beverley

              Keep measuring goodcelt - it is the best way to get a handle on things in my opinion.

                I am mostly having salad stuff, but am having broccoli/asparagus with my dinner. Oh, and I am sauteeing mushrooms for breakfast.

                I'll keep on as I am and not get too hung up on the cups for now (it's a measurement we don't use here in the UK anyway) and live by the 20g rule just making most of it salad based.

                  Now, I am totally confused. I have been trying to make sure that I don't overdo it on the veggies. My family has always made fun of the huge salads I always made at the salad bar -- and I'm talking about the veggies, not all the extras. But I have been very careful to not eat over 3 cups of my veggies. I just started last Monday. I use at least 6 packets of Splenda a day, and I count my cheese. I have had an egg dish 2-3 times that uses eggs, cream cheese and cream. I have 1/2 an avocado sometimes. I've only had two sf sodas, and that was out of the house. I just don't want to blow my induction.

                  So, you're saying to eat more than 3 cups of veggies, count carbs, and don't go over 20 a day?

                    I think most people say stick to this 3 cups... but seeing as for me, cups is a measurement that is so unfamiliar (wish they would just say how many grams or ounces which is surely the more accurate way to measure ) I find it easier to just count the carbs.

                    When you eat stuff like asparagus/peppers etc, it's pretty hard to work out fitting that into cups anyway unless your are cutting them into tiny pieces lol

                    My averages days are around 18g of net carbs, and I've lost 8lbs in 3 days (weighed myself this morning which is day 4) so, I must be doing something right.

                      There is a sticky thread at the top of this forum which says how many grams are in a cup of most induction veggies. I always weigh my veggies and find it very useful for reference.
