Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

I want to know the affect they have on my body. So i devised a meal plan that is in line with induction, and will be eating that for the next two weeks exactly. I will be drinking the same ammount of water and working out he same (using the HR monitor to make sure I am as in-line daily as I can). Then on the second week I'll simply add in 3 atkins bars...and compare the percentage of weight loss. I am doing it simply because I want to.

Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

      Hello,

I am equally confused about the Atkins bars as the next person. When you read the back of the box, it says something like 18g carbs but on the front in big letters is "2g of Net Carbs"

Hammering back one of these bars and having to use 2/20 carbs for the day is one thing, but using 17/20 is another. Should I completely stay away from these bars during Induction or is ok to eat one or two during the day just to curb those nasty hunger pains???

Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

        Simply put:
All bars contain soy. Most of them also contain milk or nuts. None of these are allowed in induction and one of the induction rules is to stay away from anything that is not on the list of allowed foods.

Why not eat real food when you are hungry? One, it tastes much better. Two, it's healthier (just look what junk there is in the bars). Three, it is legal. If you are hungry between meals, you can prepare some legal snacks. I'm not sure if you already know about it, but Linda's website has great recipes (with pictures, carb count, etc.):

As to how net carbs in the Atkins bars are calculated, the answer is in this article:

That is very interesting Amanda. Thanks for posting that.
See so many people posting lately that they are not losing and then when looking closely it turns out they are eating too many sweeteners. Sounds like with you cutting down sweeteners (in bars and elsewhere) things really started to move. Great to know.

                Good call, Amanda
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

GREAT info!! Wish I had read it BEFORE I indulged.

Have hit an emotional rollercoaster the last 2 days, today being the worst. No cigarettes or comfort food to turn to so there was these chocolate decadence Atkins bars, 3 for ÂŁ1.25. They called my name! "Pam, Pam! Over here. You know you want us!"

No, I didn't eat all three. I ate half of one. I'm throwing away the others.

Congrats for not eating all 3! Probably nothing will happen from half, so no need to worry.

If you want to have something tasty, sweet and completely legal, you can soften cream cheese (~50 g) w/ butter (5-10 g) in the microwave, add 1-2 teaspoons of heavy cream and a little splenda... mix together... and voilĂ !

Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

I made some mini cheesecakes last night with two blocks of cream cheese, two eggs, a splash of vanilla and splenda. Put them in muffin tin and baked at 350 for about a half an hour.

Of course, then I ate too many of them. (It was an insane night. )

Hey thank you for that. I'll have to try it. That said... I'm now wondering what other issues my body has been hiding as I have been quite ill today.

On the Atkins website it recommends eating a bar or drinking a shake each day in between meals. They also say "Safe for All Phases" on them...

Hmm... what do you the Atkins company cares more about -- your weight loss or their sales?

That might have solved my burning question of why I stopped losing weight on my first week of induction!!! I started last Monday I lost 3 pounds until Friday..but then I have not lost anymore...Could have it been that i was eating from 3-4 Atkins Bars and Shakes??? Also, I noticed that in the book they tell you to calculate NET CARBS by deducting the Total Carb Count from the Fiber Count ...But I have noticed that, lets say the Chocolate Peanut Butter ATkins Bars (that is sooo yummy....), has a total of 22 CARBS, adn 10grams of FIBER, 1 gram sugar..adn tehy tell you it only has 2 NET GRASM OF CARB..??? SHouldnt it have 12?????
                              THANKS MUCH!

How much do you have to lose? What are your weight and height?

While Atkins bars/shakes may (most likely, are) be responsible for the halt, weight loss is not linear... not even in induction. As frustrating as it is, sometimes we can do everything perfect and still see no loss the next day. However, giving up the bars is, in my opinion, a good idea. First of all they are not "legal", and then they do stall many people... so you might be one of them.

The apparently (or not) wrong net carb calculation is due to sugar alcohols. Here's a good article about this stuff:
