Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

THANKS SO MUCH! I want to lose around 20-25 pounds, from (now) 141 to 120-115. I am 5 6''. I started doing LOW FAT-HIGH CARB diet for 2 weeks (and lost 4 pounds in two weeks) and then I learned about teh Atkins, bought the book and took it really seriously and started last week teh induction phase. I was really tired the first three days adn no ketones in the urine, but by Friday I lost already 3 pounds and had a moderate level of ketones ( I drink losts of water)..but i have noticed that over the weekend i did not lose anything! which as you might imagine is a bit depressing when you are on a diet...my main concern however is to know what went wrong... because i believe it will work for me...so I will cut down on teh bars for teh induction phase..nad cant wait to see what AmandaJean1 resulst are!
THANKS MUCH! This Bulletin Board is the best!

Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

During induction (i.e. weighed at the end of the two weeks), one usually loses 5-10% of the excess weight. So if you want to lose 20-25 lbs, 3 lbs is great! However, try eliminating the Atkins bars and let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

I tried to buy some atkins bars to have as a snack and they had been recalled! The Atkins peanut butter bars are now part of the recall of peanut butter products! So in addition to slowing weight loss, you could get REALLY sick...totally not worth it.

For me this is a blessing in disguise as I just started Atkins on Monday and shouldn't be having them anyway.

That is correct the Atkins peanut bars were on the list of recalled peanut product in the recent Salmonella scare.

I wish I had seen this yesterday I was down 8lbs 7 days into a clean induction also walking 3-4 miles every night,

Then yesterday as a treat I had one of these safe for all phases choclate bars and a can of diet coke woke up 4lbs heavier this morning?! I'm not a happy camper today

Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

                  No not really
But what may have happened is that Timetolosit processed all the carbs in the bar (and not just the ones they listed on the front but the one they list on the back including the sugar alcohols). Then the body would have retained water to deal with a huge influx of carbs and voila - you get pounds.
Could also be a coincident but I don't trust those things.

Re: Atkins products -- should I have them?

My rule of thumb for those pesky sugar alcohols is that if they don't give me the 'bathroom effect' then every carb is being processed by my body and so I need to count them all.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

1 thing will not cause you to gain 4lbs. Weight is gained over time not immediately. I have one of those digital WW scales as well and I swear every time I use mine as well it always says something different. I think I am going to be getting a different scale cause this one sucks.

This is some great info thanks! I was pretty worried because I couldn't find any atkins products here where I live, but reading what you guys has said tells me that I'm probably better off with my cheese cubes and the occasional nut when I feel like I need a treat!

If you are on Induction, extended or not, nuts are not allowed. If you are bored with your food choices and/or don't have a lot to lose and/or are not metabolically resistant, it might be a good idea to move to OWL.

Did you read Ch. 12 and 13 in DANDR? They explain how you should interpret your Induction results and whether or not you should stay longer on Induction.

I was thinking about this today. Does "contains milk and soy" really mean it contains "milk and soy" or is that on the label as a warning to those potential allergens? (sort of like "the machine used to make this product is also used to make peanut-based products"). The actual ingredients are "milk protein concentrate" and "soy protein isolate." For the purposes of induction, are these the same things as the "no-no" foods of a glass of milk or soy milk? I just don't enough nutritional background to know whether they're the same thing. My instinct tells me they're not, but am curious for more learned opinions.

I don't question the claims that people have reported stalling on the shakes (as I think it has affected me, too), but I wonder if me telling people they can't have one shake a day on induction because they "contain milk and soy" is really correct.

I welcome all of your thoughts on this!
