Q: My mayonnaise jar says 0 carbs but the ingredients list sugar. Help!

A: Read the ingredients list again. Ingredients are listed in a descending order. In other words the ingredients listed at the top of the list are in a greater concentration than the ingredients at the bottomof the list. So, if the sugar is listed towards the bottom, it's okay to use. But be sure to count the carbs.
    Gaffe - that's exactly right!
If your label shows a carb count you like, be sure to read the ingredients, too... and if the sugar (or any other "...trose" [another kind of sweetener]) is listed last in a line of ingredients then it should be okay.

Keriann - that's exactly right, too!

So... for most quality mayos you'll see sugar listed... but it's generally last (or next to last) in the list of ingredients AND the carb count is usually low-to-zero (obviously you'd count 1gr). It's great if you have access to a sugar-free mayo like what can be found at Trader Joe's, but PLEASE don't worry if you can't... most regular mayos will be just fine (check the label!) and they shouldn't make you stall.

As well as checking ingredients for sugar and counting at least 0.5 carbs per serving if it has sugar in the ingredients list, make sure you are measuring your servings to be accurate in your counting.

So if one serving is listed as being one tablespoon, then measure a level tablespoon of it so you know what that looks like, and then account for however many tablespoons equate to the dollop you put on to your salad.

We are lucky outside the USA as our nutrition labels list per 100 grams (3.5 ounces) or 100 mls (about 3.5 fluid ounces/7 tablespoons) which makes the maths much easier.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
