  • I need help.. motivation.. and fast!

    Hey there...

I am no stranger to these boards.. you all know that. I am going back on induction this weekend. I need some motivation. See... here is the thing. I am at 155 the most I've ever weighed. I have always been skinny... I'm talking 120/125/130 at the most. I need to lose these pounds... quick. My husband and I are going to take our little girl to Nashville in June to meet some of her favorite country artists.. I CAN'T GO LOOKING AND FEELING LIKE THIS. So... I know Atkins works... lol.. that is why I can't stop trying. My question is.. if I start this weekend... and I exercise religiously everyday... what kind of results do you think I can get by June?????? I am waiting till this weekend, because I am going to do this right this time... I'm cleaning out the pantries, the fridge, freezer, etc. And I want ONE week to get use to drinking water before the eating changes. I figure it'd be easy to transition the drinking and eating seperately than together. Please, please help me. I'm already going to be in trouble when I go to the doctor on April 11th... he told me to watch my weight when I was 143... yeah I watched... go up that is! I need a buddy... or something.. to check in with me or something. I can'f fall off the atkins wagon when I start this again. I am miserable!

    Hi CMsDarlin

it's good to know you're concerned enough about your health to make some changes. I was on Atkins a few years ago as well, lost 40 pounds, drifted away gained the 40 back and another 30 to keep it company.

That said let's address a few issues brought up in your post.

First Atkins isn't a quick fix, it's not a fad diet or a quick temporary solution to potentially deadly problem - it's simply a way of life. One that isn't measured by time constraints and rushing to transform ourselves so we look good by a certain date at a certain time.

No one can predict, that if you begin Atkins now how much you'll lose, we can only assure you that if you start Atkins now by June you'll be considerably thinner, have infinitely more energy and improved health both physically and emotionally. Any matter of pounds that may be short of your goal will be insignificant compared to your new found confidence.

It doesn't matter so much as you reach your goal weight in June as it does that your around 20 years from now to remember this vacation with your daughter.

Atkins is about reinventing ourselves from the inside out. Why let the food addict in you control your destiny?

There's no reason to postpone starting Atkins for a week so you can "get used to the water" - not to sound harsh but nonsense.

If you want this, I can tell by the tone of your post and your heart felt determination, than make like Nike and Just Do It!

Excuses not to begin abound everywhere, ignore them. Grab your copy of DANDR, sign up for a buddy (a great idea btw) and going, the past is gone forever and tomorrow isn't a guarantee or a promise, only a possibility. All we have is right now, this moment - make the best of it that you can.

      Peter -

First I want to thank you for being the only one to care enough to respond. That means a lot.

I am well aware that Atkins is not a quick fix. But yet, I know that it works quicker than any other WOE there is to lose weight. I don't want a quick fix. I want to get down to the weight I am comfortable at, I want to be healthy, I want to have energy to go outside and play with my daughter. I want to be HAPPY. I know all those thing can happen if I can get back down to the size I feel I am most comfortable at. That is why I keep trying Atkins, I KNOW IT WORKS. It's just hard for me because I am SUCH a carb addict.

I realize that no one can predict that if I begin it now how much I can lose by June. I guess I was fishing for a response of, you should be a lot lighter by June. I so need motivation. If I can use June as it, I may be able to do this.. then after June, I will find a new motivator, to keep me on track.. or heck, let's hope that I will feel so good by June, I WON'T NEED ONE.

I know that it doesn't matter so much that I reach my goal weight by June as enjoying the beautiful smile upon her face that she will have when she meets her favorite artists.. or the joy of seeing her jumping up and down dancing at their concerts. Believe me... that feeling of joy is ten times more the important than the self joy I get from looking like a hottie while I am there. :yes

I am not only postponing it until this weekend because of the water. I am also doing it to allow myself time to clean out the pantries... fridge.. freezer... and get rid of the stuff that has caused myself to downfall in the past. My husband will be doing Atkins with me. Together we can keep each other in check, but if he leaves me in the house alone with a pantry or fridge full of "goodies" I will cave in.. I did it before. Saturday is my start day. I am doing good on the water too. I drank 44 oz. yesterday. Not what is required in a day, but it's a good START.

Like I said in the beginning of this post, THANK YOU! You were the only one who cared enough to respond. I appreciate that. And one day I hope you will appreciate the beautiful picture I post on here of me, back where I should be... as the me I love. And know that you had a part in helping me get back to myself.

        Hi CmsDarlin, :wave

Oh pleeeez you don't have to thank me! I think now that you've explained your reasons for the delay I absolutely agree with them and it's a smart idea to prepare for this WOL rather then just jump in blind with carbs and sugar all over the house.

I did the same thing before both my attempts at Atkins. But this time I'm more determined than ever to keep anything - even low carb atkins friendly treats out of the house because they're triggers for me and gateways to foods that pose a genuine danger.

It's wonderful your Hubby is doing Atkins with you! I think that's the ideal opportunity, it's rare and you're lucky to have it. My partner Sean doesn't mind eating in an "Atkins home" but he eats all the carbs he wants when out and about. Then again he's at the same weight maybe plus a few pounds as he was 18 years ago when we met. I, on the other hand went from slim to the Hindenberg in record time.

About your cravings: Use lots of olive oil and butter - and Try taking Flax oil - it gives you all your Omega 3 essential oils plus it really does curb your cravings. Look for brands that say "Ultra Lignan" because these have the highest concentrate. You can take 2 -5 1,000 mg capsules before each meal. Also you can learn other ways to beat cravings by reading pages 237-239 and 246 - 255 in your copy of DANDR...believe me I refer to these pages so much myself I know them by heart!

As for you 44 ounces of water...well that's a start...now work your way up. Buy the 24 ounce Sport bottles, I love these because if you stack them in the fridge every time you open it all you have to do is grab a water and what's even better is that at any given time you'll know exactly how many ounces you've had at any given time.

You can also try adding a little lemon zest or even cucumber to your water which gives it a wonderful fresh clean taste. If you like your water ice cold the closer to the bottom of your fridge the better. I use one of those veggie or meat draws at the bottom of ours and just keep it stacked with the bottles 24/7

I think you're off to great start, a carb and sugar free household, a partner who's taking this journey with you and all the determination you need to succeed - you're going to do great!

Umm ... maybe some of us have just got up, maybe some of us made breakfast for our families and have gotten kids off to school, maybe some of us haven't hit the boards yet... sheesh, you just posted this morning. Give people a break.

How much can you lose by June? It depends on how quickly you lose weight, how many plateaus you may hit, blah blah. You won't know until you start.

LOL! Too funny. I see you only posted on Monday now. My mistake and I apologize. I usually do say nice things unless people seem like overly whiny :guns
