  • the truth about avocadoes??

I've read all over the internet and SOME people say avocadoes are not allowed on induction, others say they are but NOT in the first two weeks!

What is the final consensus on avocadoes?

Full disclosure: i've been on induction for five days so far and eaten almost 2 of the Haas variety.

Thanks in advance for the guidance!

Avocados are allowed during Induction, but limited to 1/2 per day.

Here is the list of acceptable foods: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

I love avocados, and haven't had any yet on induction, but last time, I ate 1/2 of one everyday I used to make an omelet with bacon, cheese and avocado, it was to die for!

Ok, here's a food I'm curious about but I've never tasted. They are on sale this week at Kroger. What do they taste like? I have no idea...but I'm trying to be a little more adventurous!!

I just put salt on them and eat LOL. I haven't had any on induction. I should pick some up because it would be a wonderful treat! It's a good way to start my 2nd phase. Finished 14 days today.

Hopefully I can control myself. It's something that I would normally eat more than half of...

They have a creamy texture, and as for taste, I can't describe it! They are good, plain and simple

Everlosing, feel them before you buy them. They need to be fairly soft. Too hard and you can't eat them; too soft and they turn brown and are nasty.

Also, when you cut avocados, they will turn brown from exposure to air. Drizzle them with a little lemon juice to keep them nice and green.

Thanks, Sunny_One for the advice. I forgot to ask what I should be "feeling" for when I pick some up!! If we can have 1/2 avocado per day, are you able to preserve the other half in the fridge for the next day if you drizzle a little lemon juice on it and put it in the fridge??

                          Re: the truth about avocadoes??

the only thing I can tell you is that they "taste" like an avocado - I've never tasted anything like it - it's decatant and feels like you are "cheating" but you aren't. [inside joke]. When I was growing up we ate them thin sliced on a piece of bread with butter but I don't do that now!!!

When you buy them they should be green and firm -- you can put it in a brown paper sack (like a lunch bag) for a couple days until it gives a little when you lightly squeeze it. Cut it in half (from top to bottom) - take a sharp knife and plunge it into the pit (seed) twist a little and the knife should bring the pit out easily. Take a serving spoon and cup the avocado in the palm of your hand and scoop the pulp out of the rind....it should come out in one piece...then cut it into thin slices and use it....I put sea salt & pepper on mine.

                          YUMMIE!!!

                            Mmmm, avacados! I lov'em!
Not only are they allowed on Induction but are heart healthy as well. A great way to get your fat ratio up and a healthy fat at that. They contain MUFAS,(monounsaturated fats). Very heart healthy and a fat that targets burning belly fat.
I just wanted to note that they are a special catagory food (pge 129, DANDR) and be aware that they occasionally cause weight loss to slow down in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of them.
                            Enjoy!

This was the hardest new food for me to learn to like, but I finally did. I must have wasted several over a few months, but now I use at least a couple a week. It doesn't have very much taste at all, so that means you can use it anywhere and not really taste it. It has a creamy, smooth texture.

I like it cut up in salads, usually when I make a citrus dressing. I like it sliced on top of my chicken club "sandwiches" and on my Sante Fe turkey burger.

My favorite way is to make guacamole.
                              2 avocadoes
zest and juice of one lime
2 tablespoons finely minced red onion
                              1 crushed garlic clove
about 3 tablespoons Pace Chunky Salsa (hot)
When I have them, I leave out the salsa and add raw tomatoes and minced hot peppers.

You just mash the avocado, leaving some chunks, and then stir in the lime juice & zest, then the rest of the ingredients. Store it in an air-tight container in the fridge so it won't turn brown. The lime juice helps keep it green, but not forever.

I use this as a dip with pork rinds, but my favorite is to fry one egg hard in butter and warm some sliced chicken or turkey in the butter on the other side of the pan. Layer egg and chicken with the guacamole. Yum yum!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

"Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal; While others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting, at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than ever before."
