  • Sugarless gum, coffee on induction and others

I was on induction for 1 week and lost 5 lbs and then yesterday, all went bad. I had carbs all day and I truly abused it. Today I am starting induction again. I guess I should count today as week 1 right?

    I have a few questions:
    1) can I have sugarless gum that contains 1 gram of carb or no carb?
    2) I am used to having 2 cups reg coffee a day but today I didn't have any. Should I switch to decaf? I also want to mention that I have had a terrible headache all day and still do.
    3) do you guys expereneice the headaches too or is it related to the lack of coffee?

I really want to lose something in these next 2 weeks but all I feel I eat is meat, eggs and veggies. I am trying to get creative and have printed some recipes but I'm just nervous about not doing it right and then having to start the 2 weeks again.

    Thanks

We tend to get headaches when we are detoxing from carbs. But going off caffeine will also cause headaches. Kind of a toss up what is causing yours, I don't think yesterday's carbs are clearing your system yet, so leaning toward the coffee being the culprit.

Yes, decaf is better. You might have to wean yourself with 'half-caff' in order to not suffer too much.

I will be honest... sugar free gum is not on the approved food list obviously, but esp. if you pick the ones made with xylitol and don't go crazy.. like just one or two a day, this will not mess up your program.

If you are only eating meat, eggs and veggies, this likely contributed to your blowing 5 days of work. You should be eating 3 cups of salad vegetables or 2 cups of those and one cup of 'other' vegetables from the list in the book. What veggies are you eating? Minimum of 3 cups of veggies every day... no excuses, that is what we eat even in the most restrictive first phase.

You need to go ahead and get creative. As long as you keep to the rules in the book, creative is good. I am about to fry up some radishes in bacon fat. They are awesome! And radish is a salad veggie!

      Hi momtomany1,

this is what I ate today
b- 1 burger, 3 slices of beef, 2 slices bacon
L - 1/2 burger, 1 pork chop, 1/2 cup green peppers and 1 cup romaine lettuce
      water all day.

That's it, I haven't had anything else today.

What do you think if I have half n half in my coffee instead of heavy cream and count that towards my carbs?

Also, what was a typical daily meal for you on induction. Thanks and I appreciate any and all advice you can give. By the way, congrats on your accomplishments.

I can easily give you an idea of my induction meals. I tended to eat a lot of the same meals over and over!

        Breakfast,

2 eggs scrambled with either mushrooms or red or green pepper slices and a little cheese
or a sausage patty and a fried egg

generally I do try to get a 'veggie carb' or two in my breakfast, even in induction, as you will feel your best if you spread carbs through the day

        Lunch

Baked chicken pieces, salad with romaine, very little bit of bottled ranch
        or
Roast beef with sliced cucumbers and saute'd cabbage ('fried' or saute'd cabbage gets a sweet taste, not smelly like boiled. Just saute in a little olive or grapeseed oil.)
        or my favorite
One hamburger patty topped with mayo and a few pickle slices, salad

I eat my bigger meals at lunch

Dinner tends to be tuna salad on a bed of greens, or I'll make salmon patties, the family hasn't even noticed I use ground flax instead of cracker crumbs, and a little broccoli or cauliflower. We also cook quite a bit of steaks and pork chops, so there is always meat and veggies for me. I was eating a lot of mushrooms but backed off because of a little gout issue.

I love snacks like deviled eggs and cold baked chicken legs. And this sounds crazy but its great.. I love overcooked pork ribs, even cold. I cook them in the crock pot all afternoon and all night, then in the morning they are crazy tender and very rich. I just throw them in with a half a light beer and a sliced onion and cook on medium. Celery with cream cheese makes a great snack. Oh try the green bean recipe on page 464.. decadent deliousness!

Make it through to OWL and there are berries, and many great flax recipes to look forward to as well! Oh, if you like pumpkin, a decent induction treat is a little plain canned pumpkin warmed with butter and spices in the microwave.

OH use heavy cream, NOT half and half. Milk isn't allowed, and half and half is half milk, but cream is fine in moderation.

I use plenty of mayo, oils, butter.

I fry radishes like I would make fried potatoes -- cut them in chunks, put them in a pan with onion and bacon grease and fry them until they are brown and tender. They taste like red skinned potatoes and are a staple in my weekly meals
