  • Induction help plz...

I'm currently on Induction Phase, but only lost around 3 pounds. I'm around 227 lbs. I'm 6 ft tall... I believe I want to be around 180 lbs. I've lost lots of weght since january, but not atkins just starving myself. I was at 275 lbs in January.

I've decided to try Atkins to loose the rest of the weight, but i'm dissapointed with my results.

    My Typical Day:

Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 big sausages.

Lunch: Chicken, or Steak, or Salmon... with muchrooms, Brocolli, Cauliflower, and asparagus. Only a small portion of each... I also like to add some mayonnaise.

Dinner: Chicken, or Steak, or Salmon... with muchrooms, Brocolli, Cauliflower, and asparagus. Only a small portion of each... I also like to add some mayonnaise.

Also, i'm not sure how much butter to use, should it be little, or how much? Is my menu ok? Or should it be changed? Should I add an afternoon anack or something? O'm not sure what wrong i'm doing. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

PS, the extreme wight gain was a result of antidepressants and mood stabilzers over the last couple of years. My average weight has always been around 187 lbs,

Step away from the scale until day 15. On day 15, see how much you have lost in 2 weeks of Induction and then determine your degree of metabolic resistance using the charts on page 158 of DANDR. The same charts can also be found here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-ace-ccll.html

Expecting to lose X lbs every Y days is not realistic, but patience will be paid off.

Your menu looks good. I'm not sure how many vegetables you are eating, but during Induction you should eat 3 cups daily. You may want to check those sausages for "illegal" ingredients such as sugars, fillers.

    You're probably doing nothing wrong.

Butter... Now if you eat a pound of butter per day, you will probably not lose weight. But if you eat it in moderation, you'll be fine. There's no exact answer to your questions, as in "eat 20 g of butter per day" or "eat only 5 g". As long as you don't binge on butter (hard to do, imo), using it in your meals is okay.

      Re: Induction help plz...

So after losing 55 pounds on stavation dieting you started Atkins at about 230 pounds aiming at 180 pounds.

This means you hoped to lose another 50 in total when you started Atkins.

You didn't say how long you have been following Atkins induction eating, so I don't know if you have completed 14 days yet.

An 'average' loss for 14 days of induction would be between 5% and 10% - between 2.5 pounds and 5 pounds and anything over that would be great.

Considering that you had already been losing weight before starting eating more healthily (so probably did not have a lot of 'water weight' to lose) I think you are doing great

The foods you have listed are fine as far as they go but without quantities it is hard to make recommendations.

We have a 'review my menu' forum where you could list everything including amounts so people can get a better handle on it.

As for adding an afternoon snack - are you hungry in the afternoons? If so eat, if not don't.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Elizellen nailed it. Step away from the scale til the end and factor in the loss you have already had since you aren't likely to have as dramatic a start given the weight you have already lost. Figure it this way---even if you lose slower, you are now losing while having plenty to eat and learning the foods that cause a problem for you as you go up the rungs. Much better than starvation.
