  • Atkins Catalog - Psyched! And Questions...

Okay I just got my Atkins catalog in the mail and there is so much yumminess in there!!! A lot of the stuff says whether it's safe for induction or not.

Honestly, I'd probably only eat certain things and most of the time on induction or not, but I'd be eating them to avoid fast food places.

So what's the lesser evil, Atkins bars or 2 plain hamburgers from McDonalds??

Prolly the 2 plain hamburgers - I don't believe its counted as a frankenfood

Be carful of what they sell you. Some of the foods state they are induction friendly when they are really not. Corporate Atkins only wants your money, Dr. Atkins onlys wants you to be healthy.

Wait until after Induction before introducing the bars or anything else - keeps you sticking to a clean induction

horribly processed foods. French fries are a good example:

They take a perfectly good potato, dice it into slices (or whatever they do to get them into the shape the come in) and deep fry it in the worse kinds of oils and fat and turns it into a frankenfood.

The Atkins bars are also known as Frankenfood because of how processed they are.

I'd like to urge everyone to focus on learning how to eat fresh, real foods instead of thinking about processed bars and shakes, etc (the frankenfoods).
In the long run you'll be healthier for sure. :yes Dr. Atkins original idea for the diet was to take everyone back to eating real foods, and I think he had a good idea there.

Also, I know the nutritional benefits of eating an egg, but as for a processed bar...well..that's anybodies guess, right?

Here's something that you all might find interesting
            Bars/shakes
            Quote:
The patients who stayed, however, were extremely loyal to both atkins and his low-carb diet. But they had one major complaint: In a fast-paced world where everything was low in fat or high in carbohydrates or both, it was difficult to find something that they could eat on the run while still remaining on the low-carb program. They had no time to prepare their own snacks. Perhaps something like the low-fat energy bars sold in convenience stores would be great, only low-carb instead.

Atkins hesistated, and for a good reason. One of the things he constantly stressed with his patients was that they should eat foods that were as close to their natural state as possible, and for him, any kind of energy bar was as good as poison since it was clearly a processed food...

But his patients continued to beg him for something---"you sell the vitamins and other supplements, why not energy bars?" they reasoned--and so, with great reluctance, he gave in and developed not only an energy bar but also a low-carb shake that would make it easier for patients to keep to their Atkins programs.

"As long as you only use it for emergencies," he reminded them.

            ****

The energy bars and shakes were a necessary evil, there only because he thought his patients were too lazy to prepare the real kind of unprocessed foods that were the mainstay of his diet.

              SassyGoddess:
Hello, I couldn't agree with Moochiecat more re: the above info. Don't get me wrong, I loved to eat yummy candy bars, protein bars, sugar stuff, but I don't like what the result of eating those things did for my appearence. So, I tried the fake stuff,( no carb, low carb bars and stuff), it made me want sugar more! And I was getting no where with my diet and weight loss. I'm still new, but I think I have now realized that I have to follow the directionn to a "T", (Dr. Atkins way of life) in order to get where I want to be as far as my weight loss is concerned. Give it a few days and you really don't want that stuff. Good Luck!!!!!
