    Re: Beer & Karma

I know EXACTLY how you feel!!!
I love to have beers by the pool or be with others and take part!
These last 9 days have KILLED me, with the nice sunny weather and being by the pool! So even though I will probably get some hate mail LOL I must say that I did have 1 or 2 vodka drinks with crystal light! I stopped after that and have been loyal to the water, and I am still loosing weight!
Im not telling you to go out and ruin everything,.....just be wise with your decisions! You will know what to do!

HW-162/SW-152/CW-140/GW-130...and than some later if needed!

    First goal met 10lbs down
now on for the next 10

      Re: Beer & Karma

Despite all the fantastic responses and good karma shared in this thread, I gave in to temptation on Sunday.

I made it through Saturday night without issue which was originally what I was worried about. But when the reunion was in full swing and I was handed a beer by a favorite uncle, I made the mistake of consuming it without hesitation.

Nine beers, a side of pasta salad, and a generous slice of birthday cake later, I'm back on board. It hurts to post it since I will now be tagged as a weakling who gets no credit for further posts, but I'm hoping the confession will assist in keeping me honest so that I can have an equally successful repeat performance of Induction.

It's been 4 years since we last saw our family in PA, so I don't expect to deal with their beer coolers for a while. I refuse to let this derailment lead to another 10+ pound gain on the scales.

Thanks for the votes of confidence, the good will, and the honest answers. Sorry to have let you down. The moral of the story? Just (don't) do it.

Nice to see you back on track Eric. I always tend to say that is the most important thing. And I believe it. The people who can pick themselves up are the ones who give themselves a chance to succeed. Good luck on this round.

Stuff happens Eric. The important thing is that you got right back on track. I don't think you'll get tagged as a weakling as so many of us have been side tracked by beer etc..

            Re: Beer & Karma

Thanks for following up with this post. I really appreciate it because we are all human. It happens to many of us. I can guarantee that it will happen to me (cough - again) some day. I must also say that you are doing the right thing by getting right back into it.

I have mentioned in several of my own posts that beer and frites are my weaknesses. I just love the Dutch beer here, the Belgium beer, and oh my word, the German beer. One of the reasons (maybe the primary reason) that I moving so quickly up the rungs is because I need to know my CCLL and be able to have a beer without having a complete breakdown of the Way Of Eating that we do here. It is just not something that I am willing to live without, long term. Thanks to Dr. Atkins I don't have to.

what the rungs mean to me:
            rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
            rung 4 - berries, melon
            rung 5 - wine -
            rung 6 - beans, hummus
            rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
            Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range

              Re: Beer & Karma

Eric...thank goodness you came back. What you did was learn a lesson that despite the best laid plans and even if you feel strong you can still get sucked into falling off the wagon. Now you will be able to teach others here that actually plan to go out for their drinks during induction what a bad idea it was. Isn't it weird how your brain justified that since you had the beer you may as well have the pasta salad and the birthday cake instead of stopping with the beer.
Drink your water and stick to plan and you will be okay.

BTW...congratulations on making it through Saturday night. Were you still one of the boys or did they cast you out??

Like the others have said, the important thing is that you're back! I posted my major cheat in this thread earlier...although it took me 4 days to get back in ketosis , now I'm doing good and losing consistently again. You will be soon too!

I think Shannon has it exactly right in moving up the rungs so we can really make this WOE work in our lifestyle.

                  Re: Beer & Karma

I just wanted to say from somebody who just started - it's great to see somebody be able to pick themselves up, dust themselves off and continue where they left off. It's encouraging, because my biggest downfall with dieting is to quit as soon as I make a mistake.

In my eyes - you are not a weak person, but somebody who is truly committed.
