  • Why am I in dark ketosis and not losing???

    I am stumped. I have been dark ketosis for many days (and yes I drink my water, at least 64 ounces a day) but my ketosis is still in the dark, and my weight IS NOT budging. This is day 9 on induction, and I have lost about 4 lbs, which I am not that happy with. Any clues, I would greatly appreciate it

    4 lbs is not bad at all. What are your stats (height, current weight, goal weight)?

    Also post a menu or two, including quantities.

      Okay, I found your ticker. So you started at 170 lbs, lost 4, and your goal is 140 lbs. 4 lbs lost out of 30 is over 13%. Most people lose 5-10% at the end of their Induction (14 days). Your results are excellent!

        That's what I was gonna say - excellent results! 4 lbs is fantastic! I'd be happy with 4 lbs, and I have PLENTY more to lose.

        Mini Goals:
        Goal 1 - 10% (September 13th, 2009)
        Goal 2 - Pre-Pregnancy Weight with 2nd Child (September 27th, 2009)
        Goal 3 - 50 lbs down (December 1st, 2009)
        Goal 4 - Highest Pregnancy Weight with 1st right before c-section (February 20, 2010)
        Goal 5 - Lowest weight reached on WW after having 1st child
        Goal 6 - 100 lbs down
        Goal 7 - Pre-pregnancy weight with 1st
        Goal 8 - Weight I met my husband
        Goal 9 - 150 lbs down
        Goal 10 - Weight in Grade 8
        Goal 11 - Weight in Grade 6

          I started out at 170.5 and now I am 166.5

          This is day 9 for me, and I havent budged since saturday (so like 4 days)

          My typical days food is
          Breakfast eggs

          lunch: cottage cheese and tomatoes (mixed together) then (a small salad) with onions, pepper, and romaine lettuce

          dinner: chicken (or beef), and a salad, sometimes an egg on my salad also.

          Snack: Cheese cookie (small amount of cheese on plate melted)

          I drink TONS of water, I dont allow myself anything else until I get at least my 64 ounces in, and then I might mix in an on the go crystal light into my water.

            My other question is?? Is it bad for me to be in such dark ketosis even though I drink all my water???

              From what I've read in the book - the induction phase isn't just about losing weight, it's helping you to lose your dependency on carbs in general. It's preparing you for the next stages of weight loss. Honestly, you shouldn't have weighed yourself so soon because there are so many factors as to why you've been stalled since Saturday. Any weight loss is good. Don't be so much of a scale hound though - it's not good for your psyche.

              I can't say anything about your menu, I'm just on day 4 - but I'm refusing to weigh myself because I DON'T want the added pressure of maybe possibly not losing actual pounds right away.

              Mini Goals:

                sweetz, my ketostix stay really dark too. I drink between 64-100 oz a day. I've just been told everyone is different. But maybe we'll both get some advice!

                  I would cut out the cottage cheese, because that's only allowed once you get to OWL Rung 2. Also, I would completely cut out the Crystal Light (since I believe the sweetener is aspartame, which often stalls people). But definitely keep in mind 4 lbs is nothing to scoff at. You should be very proud! Also, are you near your TOM?

                    I've been doing Atkins since on and off since 2002. Cottage cheese was allowed on induction in some of the earlier books. I forget which one was the last one that allowed it...I'll have to go look it up.I lost just fine on induction using cottage cheese. But maybe I will cut it out and see what happens.
                    Also the crystal light is the ones that you pour in the water bottle, (hardly anything) and I have only had 1 since starting.

                      Dark ketosis or light ketosis doesn't matter. It is urine that you are measuring and urine can be diluted by what you are drinking. If the sticks turn at all, you are in ketosis. 64 ounces of water is actually a minimum. If you are exercising, you should be drinking more.

                        I'm pretty sure Crystal Lite is sweeten with Splenda. Aspartame produces an insulin spike in about 25% of the people that consume it. I stay away from aspartame just to be on the safe side. Cottage cheese is not an induction food. Some foods, although low in carbs can stall weight loss. Your best bet is to do a clean induction. After a while you will learn how your unique metabolism responds to certain foods.
                        For instance, I have no problems eating eggs or bacon. But if I eat them combined, it stalls my weight loss. So, I'll eat my eggs in the morning and bacon in the evening.

                        Cream is another culprit for me. Double cream, that is. It stalls me dead on my tracks! Big time.

                        There's no such thing as a permanent quick weight loss, it's a life time achievement.

                        Get your net carbs from the veggies allowed during the induction phase. There's a pocket list you can print out and use while shopping some where here in this forum. I forgot the location.

                          Actually, after looking around a bit, it looks like we're both right. Apparently the bottles (pre-mixed) are made with sucralose, and the On the Go (powdered) packets are made with aspartame. The OP mentioned the On the Go packets in water. I don't drink either, so I wasn't 100% certain on the ingredients before.

                            How much did you lose the other times? The older you get the more difficult it is to lose... It takes longer and the stalls in between losses can be longer...

                              The first time that I did atkins was in 2003. I lost 30 lbs in 8 weeks. ( I had gained like 40 lbs from birth control (depo) and needed to lose the weight from it. Before that I was always thin gggrrrr. Anyways, I pretty much kept that offf the last 5 years, and then gained most of it back after I graduated from college. I have NO CLUE why I gained it back, so annoying. Anyways, here I am again....
                              In 2005 my lowest was 132 (which I weighed at my wedding)
                              Now I am 166, well I started 1 week ago at 170, so here I go AGAIN!
                              But all of my clothes fit a thin me, so I have no choice.
