  • Weight Loss & Weddings...

...just got back from a dear friend of mine's wedding. It was FANTABULOUS! The ceremony was in the shade, so it wasn't too hot. Cocktails and h'ordeurves (sp?) were served afterward, then we went into the banquet hall and started our meal!

    Here's the menu they served:

    On the Patio:

    Crab Cakes
    Egg Rolls
    Somosas
    Cheese Balls
    Alcohol

    In the Banquet Hall

Starter: Mozzarella Cheese, pastrami, red cabbage leaf with pickled cabbage and celery
Salad: Caesar Salad with TONNES of dressing, bacon bits, and croutons
Pasta: Two types of pasta - penne and tortelinni
Main Course: Two Chicken Breasts in a butter sauce, large potatoe wedges, and yellow and green beans.
Dessert: Large Waffle Cup filled with chocolate ice cream, topped with whipped cream and drizzled with strawberry sauce.

So - Day 13 of Induction - wanna know how I did?

I had NO appetizers, NO alcohol, and asked for water instead. Even though the servers kept coming by every 5 minutes asking if we wanted food, I stayed diligent and kept saying No Thank You.

For the meal - I ate the pastrami and cheese, and left the weird cabbage concoction because I wasn't sure about how it would taste - I know I can EAT cabbage, but I was trying to be selective with how MANY vegetables I ate since I only had room for 1 more cup. Then the salad came, I picked around the croutons and scraped off as much caesar dressing as I could. The Pasta came around, and I just turned my chair away from the table and paid attention to the speeches that were going on. The main course arrived, and I gobbled up all my chicken, but because I'd just eaten my third cup of lettuce, I was done veggies for the day so had to leave the string beans alone. I threw my potatoes onto my husbands plate as well. Then he got full and I got to eat his chicken too, lol. Then dessert came - by that time, half the table knew what I was doing, so one offered to take mine for me to split between her and her boyfriend, and I happily obliged.

I think I did FANTASTIC! I was so proud of myself - though I think a lot of that had to do with the fact I weighed in this morning and I've lost a grand total of 15 lbs! I will definitely be recording probably an overage of how much caesar dressing I ingested, but I think I did great all things considering.

Anyway - that is my first experience eating away from home where I don't have a choice as to what's served in front of me.

However - I do have a choice as to what I eat.

    Thank you and goodnight!

      Well done!!

And your last sentence would make a good motto for an Atkineer

Wow impressive power. Many people would probably rationalize that this was one of teh occasions - but when you set your mind to it there are things you can still do if you want to. Sure sounds like you want to. I think I see plenty of losses in your future and victories to go with it.

I very much appreciate all the pats on the back and support. I am honestly of the belief that weight loss and lifestyle changes cannot be made without it. Yes, ultimately it's you that makes the decision to change - but it's how other people can rally around you to keep pushing you to be your best that is the indicator of success.

I look forward to continuing this journey with you all (or as my husband's family says "ya'll") in my OWL.

                  What?????

You mean to say the Bride didn't announce that you totally ruined her wedding because you didn't eat any of the finger foods?

You mean to say the Groom didn't get up point at you and tell everyone that you are soooo rude for passing on the cocktails and pasta??

You mean to say that your tablemates didn't start a whispering campaign about the weirdo at their table who refused dessert???

You mean to say that the bridesmaids and ushers didn't spray paint your car with the words "LOW CARB FREAK! GET OUT OF TOWN!" ????

You mean to say that the banquet hall staff didn't tell the chef that you are pushing aside some of his creations and that the chef didn't quit because you didn't eat his food?????

Well, I'm absolutely appalled at the lack of guilt and peer pressure your so-called friend and the other people at the wedding heaped on you.

I mean, they were supposed to hold you down, force open your mouth, fill it will all sorts of foods you cannot eat on Atkins, then make you swallow it. Now, instead of posting a "they forced me to eat X, Y, Z" thread, you post this "I stuck to my diet thread."

Honestly, I don't know what's wrong with the world. Tsk.
