Re: Over 45? Word of Warning

That is not unlike some of the things I have learned too. To lose I would need to go very basic - low carb and simple veggies. But my maintenance choices are a bit more varied.
I worry about it when people (atkins dieters here) start to tell us they are making this and that dish because yeah - in reality most of us do need to be very basic and reserve these special concoctions for occasions rather than rule.

I have enjoyed OWL - even if it is only a few kidney beans here and there - it has been nice to have them.

Well ladies, this is probably true, but I can not add much on the subject since I am still on extended induction trying to shave off about the first 25% of my goal. I am actually a little afraid to have to start going up the rungs when the time comes, except for Rung 1.

But I can sure say that after the first month, it sure is taking a lot longer than I expected to drop these pounds. It is a little frustrating when you are doing all the right things and it still drags along!

So had no one had success with moving onto to another way of eating such as a low GI diet to maintain weight loss? What about interchanging WW for some variety?

so you are saying our issue is not that we are pre or post menopausal, you think we are doing the wrong diet?

Not sure I understand your question. Are you asking about if anyone tried these other diets before Atkins? I think most of us on this WOE intend to stay on it as our WOE eating after the weight loss and will continue to eat this way. We have chosen this WOE because we feel it best suits our lives.
And interchanging with WW is not Atkins.

Please clarify your question so we can answer it in the best way.

Jenileigh - no need to switch to another diet--why when Atkins offers many of the same foods in maintenance as those plans. In fact the maintenance plan for Atkins would probably compare closely with several of the other diets, so what would you gain?

Mission- I know it feel slow but you are losing at a really sound rate. 30 pounds in under three months is more than twice my rate of loss! I think you are doing fantastic!

I agree with Jill - Atkins premaintenance/maintenance food choices have all the variety I would want, so I see no need to think of switching to a different eating plan.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I've been on so many 'diets', but that's what they were - diets, they were short term and may have allowed me to lose some weight, but I never kept it off. Atkins way of eating is for life. I never thought I would lose my 'belly fat'. I thought that since I was 50 and post-menopausal, that was just life...I was wrong. Since following Atkins, I have lost my stomach and feel better than I have in years. I truely believe that it saved me, and also my marriage...I never felt like this on a 'diet'.

Hey Dawn! I made it back, and still remembered my log-in and password........amazing at my age huh?

I am really excited about re-starting Atkins, especially after reading some of the posts and success stories here-very motivational!!! I was going to wait until Monday to start but decided there's no time like the present.

I'm really proud of you for sticking with it. I wish I wouldn't have jumped ship but sometimes life gets in the way. Looking back now, it was all for the better!

Now it's time to get the rest of this weight off!

yeah Cis I'm so glad you found me! I suggest starting a journal in 'journal stats' and joining some challenges...also go introduce your self.

It's going slow, but I'm thrilled every day that I'm doing this. I just feel great and am happy again. I even bought earrings yesterday at a craft fair - may not seem like a big deal to others, but I had felt so horrible about myself for so long - I wouldn't even think of spending money to make me 'feel pretty'...I bought 3 pairs

                        Hi Jill,
I am on my third day of the induction, well u could count me as one of those who are fat despite the fact they eat less, I have been takin all the veg part of it regularly but I am still too spectacle about the fat part of teh diet so I have egg frieds in butter, sum cabbage soups in the noons, some fresh fruits of course unseetwned in the later part of the day, then more salad and salad had a small amount of meat on my second day that was yesterday.

The good part is I seldom have food cravings which is fortunate but how would I feel a bit more comfortable about including sum more protiens and meat on my plate or the other thing is if I dont feel the need for it I can better skip it and leave those extra calories!

I am a bit confused so please guide me through this!

                        Thank you!

Well, "lets" if you are having fruit you are not doing Atkins Induction.

You need to eat a sufficient amount - at least 1500 cals a day. Your diet should be about 65% FAT, 30% PROTEIN AND 5% CARBS-MOSTLY FROM VEGGIES, allowed veggies. You should also be drinking a lot of water. Cabbage soup may be good for the veggie portion but it does not look to me like you are getting sufficient fat.

You need to read THE BOOK! or at least these threads:

I don't really know what my question is, I just see so many people yo yoing, up and down, up and down. I was trying to figure out why and I was wondering how the weight comes back so quickly, how strictly do you have to stick to the 20 carbs before gaining. I know everyone's carb intake is different for gaining but what is the limit you guys can eat and not gain? I should have reworded my question. Are you gaining because you just stop Atkins completely? Or do you see gaining even if you are watching your foods just not counting carbs? Which yes, the latter would not be doing Atkins.....but you aren't doing Atkins IF you are gaining, correct?

When we get older our hormones change and as that happens for most of us gals it gets easier to put on weight and harder to lose it. This is the fact we are muzing about in this thread Jenileigh. This fact of life will be true for most of us gals (You have something to look forward to ) no matter what diet we do or do do not do.
Personally I do not yo yo much up and down - I will go up if I do not watch what I eat and do not exercise for sure. Atkins has really helped me a lot. I was on such a downward spiral when I hit perimenopause and it was depressing but by cutting out bad carbs I have regained control over stuff. I am so happy about this. There is not way I am going to yo-yo and switch diet just because I do not lose every week. That is just silly. I think most of us gals that are in this situation may have gained a bit of wisdom to have the patience we need. But sometimes we need a thread like this jus to air things out and have some laughs about it.

It wasn't my intentions to offend anyone, I suppose I misunderstood the thread. I'm new here and I've been sort of popping around and reading here and there and it seemed to me that I had read a lot of threads where people were going up and down. I was just wondering how easy it was to gain, how hard it was to keep the weight off once its lost. Again, I never meant to intervene or step on anyone's toes. My apologies.
