  • Alright I think I got it!!

Ok, so here is my journal thing for today..I think I got it..

    http://fitday.com/fitness/FoodLog.ht...ate=1255046400.

last night I sat and really looked at what I was eatting. I am eating the right things but I am going to pay closer attention to the amounts. I also had a sit down with a friend to explain fitday to me. So lets hope I do better.

    Please excuse my frustration yesterday.

I came home and made this for dinner..

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

It looks just like the picture and tastes not bad. Personally I would add some other vegetables if you have your 1 cup of additional vegetables left.

I had a cup of black herbal tea and started the book again..I'm in that challange so I am looking forward. It's really hard when you don't know how to eat and have never really watched porton control as close as you have to with this way of eating.

That's not the correct link to your Fitday ... remember, the link will have "owner" in it.

Ok ... I went and dug out the link from yesterday ...

My only comment so far ... "cream" is rather generic. Was it heavy cream, 1/2 and 1/2? You should use the specific entry for what kind of cream.

Heavy (whipping) cream is "cream, heavy, fluid". Why does it matter you ask?

Look at the carb count ... for "cream, heavy, fluid", the carb count for 1 fl. oz. is 0.83 net carbs. For your "cream", the carb count is 1.3.

If you used 1/2 and 1/2, the entry is cream, half and half and the net carb count for the 1 fl. ounce is 1.3.

Remember that with Fitday, being as accurate as you can be with your data entry will give you accurate data back. And it will help to reduce your frustration!

As to the broccoli ... did you weigh it?

        here is the link.

it is half and half. let me look again for the right one and adjust.
Broccoli...I cut off 3 little "trees" and cut them up. It was a really small amount. I just guessed that it was .3 of a cup because it all fit on a tablespoon and was not heaping. I'm really careful today with amounts

Re: Alright I think I got it!!

Guessing really doesn't work. Lots of things can fit on a tablespoon but that doesn't make them measure a tablespoon!

Remember that a tablespoon is a measurement of volume ... not weight.

You might do well to invest in a scale so that you can weigh things.

Also, if you look at the drop down for broccoli, you'll see "flowerets" ... you could then enter the 3 you ate.

Again ... more accurate than guessing it was 3/10 of a cup. Remember ... cups aren't really measured in tenths ... .

If you were thinking 1/3 of a cup, the fractional equivalent is not .3.

Re: Alright I think I got it!!

Well...I think I am doing well today. Thanks for the confidence and encouragement I am not worried about 3 tiny pcs of broccoli as I know how small they were (which was pretty small) but will make sure that my 1 cup other vegetable is a little less the 1 cup to account for my daily amount allowance. Atkins is what Atkins is and weither you enter stuff right on a website is not a key issue. I am not getting frustrated again because of a stupid website. You didn't see what I ate this morning.

Everything is not meant as a debate. My post was more for an "I am sorry for my fruatration" and not to be picked apart as such. I have adjusted the half and half. Not all of us are perfect but trying to learn something new that they have never done before. Maybe soften up on the posts...wow!
But thanks I appreicate the assistance and suggestions

              Just trying to be helpful.

              >>weither you enter stuff right on a website is not a key issue>>

It is if you want accurate information.

Remember yesterday and you were so frustrated about the information Fitday was giving you? Well ... giving Fitday correct information will give YOU correct data back.

              >>ou didn't see what I ate this morning.>>

All anyone can go on is what you put in Fitday.

              >>Not all of us are perfect but trying to learn something new that they have never done before.>>

How true. That's why we try to help. The goal isn't to pick things apart for the sake of picking ... but to help you learn.

Would you rather not know what the correct Fitday entries are?

Re: Alright I think I got it!!

which is great but you don't have to be so harsh. At times I am scared to read your posts to me. No point making a mountain out of a mole hill. Yes I was frustrated yesterday and even sent you a private message on your profile thanking you for your assistance and askig to excuse my frustration but it comes across in your posts as negative. So much for saying "good job sticking with it fluffy...noticed the entry is getting better, just tweek a few things and you should be good to go". When I am experienced as yourself and others that is the approach I shall take with knew people...its nicer!

I am proud of myself and think I am still off to a good start. So whatever..maybe your just a very blunt person..no idea but the key point is the towel has not been thrown in and your advise and others has been well taken not how much freakin broccoli was eaten. I upped on fitday as I am scared you will freak on me.

I am happy today and even more incouraged with Atkins...guess I needed to sleep on it and start reading over again. So I guess you can say I washed the towel, and with a freshly laundred towel I am moving ahead...

Okay that sounded really dumb but i am sure everyone knows what I mean... (big smiles) he he...almost time for lunch...

Re: Alright I think I got it!!

Remeber that people have different styles when they answer your posts. Some people are very harsh with themselves and somewhat harsh on others. Some are more willing to hold hands. You will meet all kinds here. I kind of like that. We are different people and react differently.

Also if it helps, there is a feature one can use called "ignore" That means all the posts of someone will be hidden and you don't have to read them. There are times when I get worked up about something and I do this. My rule about message board like this one is that if it gets too personal I have gone to far. My emotional life is not to be wasted on line. That is just my personal view point. So for me blocking someone out for awhile given me time to "recover"

Glad you are feeling better about things. I agree it is a journey. We learn things step by step. I learn new things just about daily. That is why I am here.

                    Not harsh at all.

                    >>So much for saying "good job sticking with it fluffy...noticed the entry is getting better, just tweek a few things and you should be good to go".>>

Sorry ... not really my style.

                    >>think I am still off to a good start.>>

                    You are, indeed.

                    >>I upped on fitday as I am scared you will freak on me.>>

Here's the deal, Fluffy ... how you enter things into Fitday only matters to you. If it doesn't, then that's your decision.

My only aim is to try to point you (or anyone) in the right direction ... you can go there or not.

I neither approve nor disapprove of your entries, nor of any of your choices. That's YOUR responsibility.

Just as I don't rely on anyone else to approve or disapprove of my choices! This is my journey.

And ... I have always been grateful for the solid advice I was given when I was starting. It was the "stern" advice of successful people that got me to where I am today ... 4 years on maintenance.

All I want is for someone else to have that kind of success.

You might ask yourself why someone spends time trying to help you if they don't wish you well?

Re: Alright I think I got it!!

Fluff, I don't use fitday or any online site to track my daily carbs. I only use fitday to figure out carbs in recipes I make up because I find it too burdensome. And I do better just writing down my foods and amounts in a notebook and looking up the carbs/fiber in a carb counter book or on the USDA website. So find out what system works for you and use it.

As for measuring amounts, etc. it can be daunting and a pain in the you-know-what, but I found that measuring (and I used standard cooking measuring cups, and spoons) really allowed me to see what portions were. And that helped me eat more mindfully than I had been eating pre-atkins.

So hang in there and don't get discouraged. It's easy to make this Diet harder than it really is---perhaps it's because other Diets are harder than Atkins or perhaps we just like making life more difficult. But you'll get it.

                        Thanks.

I use both but agree its much better writing it down.I too use the stardard measuring cooking tools. They are great.

This afternoon it is starting to taste like I ate a tin can for lunch. HAHA I know that is a good sign. We had a Thanksgiving social here this afternoon with coffee and cakes but I didn't move from my desk in fear that I would eat the yummy treats. They all went back to there desks and I walked over to take a look and get more water but I didn't touch a thing...YAY me!!

Wow...you made that lasagna??? That looks really delicious...and a lot of work. Can you email me a piece?

I took a peek at your FitDay log for today. Wow again...you've put a lot of work into learning it. Overnight too. I've been using FitDay for a while now and I still get frustrated at times trying to find the exact version of the food I want in their lists. It does get easier the more you use it.

I don't know if you plan your meals ahead of time but if you do what is also helpful is if you enter in the entire day's planned menu (I often do this the night before) and that way you can see ahead of time if you need to make any changes. Sometimes I need to cut carbs down or add more fat or I notice that I don't have anywheres near enough calories, etc. It's good so you don't end up at dinnertime with either not being able to eat much or having to eat some weird meal or having to eat a lot because you didn't eat enough during the day. Just a thought.

Glad to see you're having a good day...see you over on the book challenge.
