  • LINDA'S Taco Bake Nutrition Info

Has anyone tried the Taco Bake from LINDA'S LOW CARB MENUS & RECIPES? I made it last night and it wasn't too bad. It could be a little spicier. But my question is, if you have tried it, did you try to figure the cal/fat/carb/prot info yourself?
I tried to put it into fitday, and somehow for 1/8 recipe slice serving our protein count matched, but my cal/fat/ came out more than double, and her carbs = 2.5,
    my fitday = 9.6.

Only thing that I figure that could be throwing it off-- I can't determine exactly if the info for the ground beef can be the same, (don't know what meat she actually used) and if she figured the calories, etc before or after cooking. One pound ground beef becomes much less after cooking. I determined it as before cooking weight (full pound). How could I be so far off?

I still have 7 more servings, and all the $ it cost to make it, but I am afraid to eat any more.

Why not post the individual carb counts for each of the items that YOU got. Maybe we can spot something.

      Hey J,

I refigured in Fitday twice before I wrote that original post, and when I was doing it the 3rd time to post the ingredients like you said, I found the problem. The heavy cream in my fitday measures by TAB. When I put in .33 cup, it totalled over 4000 calories, which I didn't catch the first two times!!! The third time, the totals came out VERY close.

LOL, Must be my "old age", LOL!!!

      Thanks!

Are you using the on-line Fitday? The entry for "cream, heavy, fluid" doesn't have Tbs. listed?

        What entry are you using?

Yes, it does have TBS. But somehow when I entered the amount, I must have messed something up because of the way I had created the custom food. See, I created the heavy cream as a custom food because the fitday info was a little different from the brand I buy. And I must have "sabotaged" the amount somehow.

It's all good now, thanks again.

It's more likely that the label of your brand is wrong.

You shouldn't be creating custom foods for foods that already exist in the database, which is correct.

What is your custom food entry, by the way? Are you using heavy whipping cream from a carton? If so, then the Fitday entry is correct ... 6.6 net carbs per cup, and 0.4125 net carbs per Tbs.

When I go Fitday, and select, cream, heavy, fluid, the choices are:

              fl oz (default)
              fl oz
guideline amount per fl oz of beverage
              grams
              kg
              lb
              oz

No where do I see "tablespoon"!

I've always thought it to be a problem ... who wants to do the conversion of fl. oz. to Tbs!

I just reheated a portion for my dinner, it tastes good. One minute on "high" in the microwave. As I mentioned earlier though, if I make it again, I will spice it up a little more. Maybe add some salsa on top. Yesterday I added a bit of sour cream and a little bit of chopped green onion stems.

No, the label said "0" carbs, I added the .6 because I knew it was not Zero. I don't remember how I arrived at that .6. I think I tried converting the figures from Fitday to tabs to match with my carton's label, measuring tabs to ounces.

So, J, you think I should go with Fitday and ignore the nutrition info on my carton? What do you think?

Re: LINDA'S Taco Bake Nutrition Info

It is tricky when the serving sizes are as small as one tablespoon and the carbs are less than 0.5 so written as being zero.
You could put the label info into a hidden carb calculator to get the exact numbers and see how that compares with fitday.

We are lucky over here in UK as (like with most non-USA labels) ours list the nutrition per 100 grams or 100 mls, so our numbers are more 'honest' and easier to apply accurately.

For non-USA products where we have a more accurate count I would use the label info, as fitday/USDA database has the numbers for an average I am sure. Different manufacturer's/producers will find different numbers when they test their products I am sure.

The double cream I buy with 2.6 carbs per 100 ml works out at 0.38 net carbs per tablespoon (1/2 fl oz), so is less than fitday.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

My kids LOVE this recipe! We do all of the taco toppings with it, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, olives, avocado, and hot salsa. Definitely a favorite--and reheated it's just as good or better!

Glad you found the problem with calories not matching. I always "trust" Linda's counts on the recipe and have never entered each item myself. Glad to know there was a problem on your end and not with the recipe. Whew!
