Re: 2 questions- mayo and whipping cream

I don't get it either Rosie...why on earth would they ADD all of that stuff to cream? we are lucky in the UK we have Double, Whipping, Single, Extra Thick, Clotted.. mmmmm Clotted cream!! and they don't add diddly squat to it, no need to. Oh Well vive le difference as they say.

Here's something else ... if the "cream" has milk as an ingredient, it's not suitable for Induction.

            Did this help any?

from further reading on that chowhound site, im thinking maybe i should buy buttercream, there was a response telling someone that if she has reached better, she whipped too long...so, i'll check out the buttercream next time im out.

If it has milk as well as cream, it's not like our double cream and surely not like American heavy cream ... it sounds like what they call half and half.

EDIT: OK I found this. I believe you now

We do have just plain whipping cream in Canada. I buy it often. The ingredients on the Lucerne brand 35% whipping cream I bought at Costco are: cream, stablizers (lists 2 gums (can't remember exactly & too lazy to go check))

As I said mine is real to - as real as pasteurized cream can be. So I wonder if they just do it differently in Ontario - or what is going on? Hopefully we will find some answers.

Wow, this turned into quite the discussion

I'm beginning to think that cream produced in Ontario has different ingredients than cream produced out west. Lucerne Dairy is associated with Safeway Foods and is out west. Mind you, I haven't been in a Safeway around here, so maybe they carry Lucerne products too. Anyway, I'm going to check for the cream that Tracy found. Funny I was in that very aisle yesterday, looking at Evaporated milk for carbs and sugar (blech). I wonder what the 25% would taste like in coffee?

I've really enjoyed this discussion cause it really makes us think and compare notes. And that's what a forum board is supposed to do

                              I'll keep ready labels
