  • Am I at least on the right track?

Ok, I have been on induction since Monday. (really Saturday, but I was messing around with it till I got serious on Moday morning) I have lost 4 to 5 lbs this week already. I'll probably want to go extended as I have 100lbs to lose, and the diet is agreeing with me.

I think I am doing ok based on my results:
    1. 4 to 5 lbs this week
    2. I have V8, CranApple, and Pink lemonade (all 3 which I LOVE) in the fridge. The first couple days, (ie the weekend) I was wanting them bad. After that, the cravings subsided. As a satellite installer, grabbing gas station food and fast food between jobs is one main reason I am in this position. The desire to make those stops have subsided as well. My appetite has also taken a nose dive compared my usual see-food-diet.

At first, I was cooking only meat, so I was making more than usual. But I found myself making too much and gorging instead of simply stopping when satisfied. I have corrected that.

A typical day now is 3 eggs, 6-8 peices of bacon (I always cut the packs in half, I dont like long strips) for breakfast. And a 32oz glass of that nasty clear stuff from the sink. If I finish that, I try to put down another half glass b4 running out the door. I make 1 large can tuna into tuna salad, (2tbsp mayo, 1/4 white onion,1 jalapeno, 1tbsp relish) and put 3 dill spears on top. That'll be lunch. For a snack (to keep me away from the gas stations when the tummy rumbles) I put together some slices of block cheese, (jal jack, or chedder) and either sliced summer sausage or today was some block ham I cut into strips to make good finger food. I bought a armrest 12V fridge to put stuff in. I also have a 64oz cup that I am keeping ice water in instead of my usual diet soda. When I get home, (I am actually not that hungry) I make myself a couple pork chops, or a steak, and of course more damn water.

Ok, I know I should have some veggies. Gonna work on that. I also realize that some stuff I mentioned can have hidden carbs. Like the summer sausage. It says 0 carbs, but has Dextrose in the ingedients. Can I assume the hidden carbs is less than 1 or it should be on the label? Basically my rule is if it even says <1g carb, I put it back on the shelf. My line of thinking is if I aim for zero, (which I know is impossible) then the hiddens shouldnt knock me anywhere near 20 in a day.

I am being bad on the aspartame front. I LOVE diet soda. And it's a convenience, being that I can get it anywhere, and my job is to roam the earth in search of people with no TV. I have cut down considerably just in the nature of upping my water intake, but I still occasionally fill that 64oz cup with diet coke instead of water. Is that gonna kill this? I know it's not recomended, but is it a mortal atkins sin? What about the caffeine?

I have more questions I cant think of right this second. I guess my bottom line is, this seems to be generally agreeing with me. With the mobile fridge, I can finally make being on the road work for me. I am a carnivore, I love meat. I think I could do this successfully for a long period of time. (even though I may need a few tweaks here and there)

Any thoughts on my questions, or OMGs to something I'm screwing the pooch on? Am I at least facing Mecca?

    Welcome to ADBB!

    >> have V8, CranApple, and Pink lemonade (all 3 which I LOVE) in the fridge.>>

As you know, none of these are acceptable on Induction.

    >>I know I should have some veggies. Gonna work on that. I>>

What's your plan? "Gonna" isn't a good plan!

    >>Like the summer sausage. It says 0 carbs, but has Dextrose in the ingedients. Can I assume the hidden carbs is less than 1 or it should be on the label?>>

Yes, you can assume that the actual carbs are less than 1 ... and you know that it's a very processed food, high in sodium, and not necessarily the best choice for regular eating.

    >>houldnt knock me anywhere near 20 in a day.>>

The goal isn't to have as few carbs as possible. Induction is 20 net, with most of them coming from Induction vegetables.

    >>it's a convenience, being that I can get it anywhere,>>

You can get water anywhere, too.

There's a limit of 3 servings of sweetener per day.

    >>I still occasionally fill that 64oz cup with diet coke instead of water.>>

There's 8 servings of sweetener ... 5 over the limit.

You're reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), right?

Well, with ice, it's more like 24 oz, but point made. I guess no more soda during the day. Maybe one or two cans at home after work.

I'm sorry I should have been more clear. I'm not drinking them, the point was they are there, and I was craving them, and now I'm not. As I understand this, if you are having cravings for things off the list, you could be eating or drinking something to trigger them.

I understood that you weren't actually drinking them ... but it's helpful to have clarity!

          >>As I understand this, if you are having cravings for things off the list, you could be eating or drinking something to trigger them.>>

Maybe ... or maybe since you still have them and look at them, you still want them.

That's why it's generally a good idea to purge your house of things that you won't be eating.

And ask yourself if <insert food here> loves you back.

you could put water in your fridge if you dont want to pay $3 for it at the corner store. get a reusable water bottle and fill it from home.

i bought a pepperoni stick tonight 6 ingredients, 5th ingredient is dextrose, carbs 0.. not the best choice, but it was something different and i had just less than an ounce of it. just for a different flavour. there are great sites for different recipes. linda's site is great... im addicted to the big mac in a bowl, sooo much flavour. induction friendly. im not sure of the site address right now, im sure someone will post it before i can even find it. I have a bunch of the recipes saved to my favourites. coke 0 might be a good choice, but what about bringing that down from a 64oz glass to an 8 oz glass?? (personally i dont think it's good to drink it at all!!) put some lemon in your water, or lime... make soup, that would still count as water, and fill yourself up on soup mind you it's going to be a **** of alot of soup in a day!!! drink some soup broth. sugar free of course. good luck!! sounds like you are getting on the right track for sure

One can is probably more than one serving.

And ... don't forget the sweetener in your other foods ... they add up!

The carbs aren't 0 though. Nothing with sugar in it can be 0 carbs. And ... spices have carbs.

So block ham would be better than summer sausage or pepperoni?

And I have a 5 yr old, having things in the fridge that arent on the list is just something I'm gonna have to deal with.

yes correct, i should have said the pepperoni stick has less that 1 gram of carbs...

but if you have 4 cups of water, and add a tablespoon or two of chicken broth powder to that and drink it... its still water. I drink a ton of water, but for someone who doesnt like water, it's the same as adding crystal lite, or a lemon.. it's just hot, and seasoned... IMO

I used to have this argument with my grandmother all the time. If I dump a teaspoon of instant tea onto a peice of bread, IT'S STILL A PEICE OF BREAD. The bread didnt vanish. It didnt change on a molecular level into a different substance. Why would the water not also still be water? You can argue that that teaspoon of instant tea isn't good for you, but I find it rediculous to argue that the water isnt still water. ( BTW, I did get slapped for that argument as a kid hehe )
