  • Haven't cheated, unhappy with results.

I have been on induction for a week now. I have not cheated, yet I have only lost 2 lbs and some days one of those pounds come back. I weigh myself every other day because I read that most lose in double digits on induction. I am no where on track for that. I know I am not going over the 20g of carbs a day, but even if I were that still means even on OWL I would not lose right? I say that because on OWL it says you increase carbs. Regardless, right now I know I am not going over 20 grams of carbs a day. The things I have been eating are salads with just a pinch of ranch or ceasar dressing (Kraft) I also eat bacon, chicken, eggs, tuna, sausage. For veggies other than salad I eat jalapeno peppers with my eggs, I also eat broccoli and cauliflour, but not too much. I keep my carbs under 20g a day.

I went to fitday and fiddled around with that, but one of the things I eat is tuna salad. That is one can of tuna with just a very small amount of mayonnaise and mix it in to my iceberg and radicchio lettuce. It showed the carb count to be 14 grams for 1 cup of tuna salad. That is crazy. Their tuna salad is obviously different than what I am making. Anyway, I do still show to be in ketosis and I am not craving carbs, but I am getting frustrated.

Note: I do walk everyday for about 30 minutes. I incorporate other exercises on some days, but as I am over 400lbs I get tired very quickly so at this point I am not able to do very strenuous exercise. Also, I do drink over 100oz of water a day. Another thing, I am on medication that my doctor has said inhibits weight loss and can cause weight gain. I am unable to sleep without this medicine. It is called Geodon. Has anyone heard of any others on this medication having difficulty?

Sorry to hear this. Some of us are slow starters. Did you discuss the medication with your doctor - maybe there is something else you can use without those side effects. It does not sound to me like there are side effects you need right now.
    Are you measuring

Did you stop eating those Atkins bars.
Did you actually eat that ramen noodle broth stuff?
Can you post a link to fitday or a list of what you are eating typically with all items and all amounts.
Let's start there and see what we can do.

Yes, it is. You will need to enter the ingredients separately in FitDay. So you enter 1 can of mayo, X tbsp mayo, and so on.

        >>I read that most lose in double digits on induction.>>

        I doubt that's actually true.

The trouble with comparing yourself to anyone else is that someone is bound to be disappointed.

Induction isn't about losing ... it's about getting your body ready to lose.

        >>ven if I were that still means even on OWL I would not lose right?>>

        Not at all.

        >>Their tuna salad is obviously different than what I am making.>>

Yes ... Fitday is probably using a recipe that has sugar in it. That's why it's best to enter the ingredients.

        >>as I am over 400lbs>>

        Are you eating enough calories?

Maybe 100 ounces of water isn't enough? Could you drink more?

You need to be patient with your body ... it's figuring things out.

Re: Haven't cheated, unhappy with results.

i know you say you havent cheated but that medication you take is most likely whats causeing the problem

this diet is very strict when i was loseing weight for awhile i did not know whole wheat was a rung 9 food and i ate these very thin 10 net carb whole wheat wraps and that was it my weight was 100% stalled untill i cut them out of my diet

so do your best to get drug free that should help ALOT

also your bacon and sausage make sure you know the ingridients in them make sure there is absolutely no illegal ingridients cause if there was that could easily cause weight loss stalls

and dont eat any atkin bars or shakes they have illegal ingridients

also after checking and doing all that you could also try aiming your food % a little differnt like 65% fat , 30% protein 5% carbs is the normal aim but you could try 77% fat , 20% protein , 3% carbs

higher fat = better chance at weight loss cause 58% of protein can be converted to glucose but dont go any lower than 20% protein

anyways its mainly just that medication i believe so try to be drug free i know a freind and hes very addicted to medication now so i know its hard to get off them

oh and when you start loseing tons of weight try drinking extra extra water cause theres toxins stored in the fat on your body and when you lose that fat your body needs lots of water to help flush the toxins out

Yes, I only ate the one atkins bar on my 1st or 2nd day before I knew it was off limits because the packaging said all phases.

Did you actually eat that ramen noodle broth stuff?
No, I did not eat the ramen noodle broth. I never could find out if the powder packets have carbs or how much so I left it alone.

Can you post a link to fitday or a list of what you are eating typically with all items and all amounts.
I will play around with it some more to try and figure all of that out.

That alone should have answered the question of whether or not you wanted to eat the ramen noodle "broth", regardless of the carb count!

Re: Haven't cheated, unhappy with results.

I have lost some now. Lost maybe 8 pounds total in a week and a half or so. I have tried to the fitday thing and tried to customize the ingredients, but the only thing it will let me customize are the nutrition data i.e. calories, fat, carbs etc. That would take me forever to look at every label of every ingredient and input that information. Anyway, I have found that if I go over 10 carbs I gain, but if I stay under I lose. So I haven't been eating much salad. I pretty much stick to meats such as chicken, tuna, sausage, bacon and some cheese. I do eat eggs as well. I also eat jalapenos and some celery sticks. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement.

You don't have to do that.

Tuna is an entry. You just add how much tuna you ate. Then you add the other ingredients.

                    >>I pretty much stick to meats such as chicken, tuna, sausage, bacon and some cheese.>>

                    That's neither healthy nor Atkins.

                    >>I have found that if I go over 10 carbs I gain, but if I stay under I lose.>>

I bet that if you gave your body a chance to adjust, you would lose.

Congratulations on losing 8 pounds so far in spite of being on medication known to cause weight gain
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Back on the diet after suspending my efforts until reading the book

I initially started Atkins in December with mixed results due to not yet reading the book. I decided to halt the diet over Christmas and wait until I got the book (it took forever to get it) So I started back on the diet, I mean my new woe on January 17th. I drink at least a gallon of water a day and have incorporated a lot more exercise than I had initially. I walk an hour 3 times a week as well as 45 minutes of resistance training 3 times a week. That is only about 8 miles of walking a week, but I plan on increasing that. Anyway, this is my eighth week back on plan and I have lost 40 pounds as of Sunday. I weigh myself only once a week now as the everyday or every other day thing was messing with my mind.

The funny thing is my first two weeks back on I lost 17 pounds. According to the book I have a low metabolic resistance to weight loss with those numbers. The problem is that when I attempted to advance to OWL on the 4th week (I waited until the 4th week to go to OWL, but I went back to extended induction) I added 5 more grams of carbs with only the foods allowed and I actually gained a pound. So I am suspecting it is my medication that is preventing me from proceeding up the ladder.

Someone on here recommended I talk with my doctor about changing my medication. I did, but he said all of those types of medications have that possibility and Geodon has the least amount of side effects in that regard. I have tried to stop taking it by tapering off of it, but my symptoms were very problematic so stopping the medication isn't an option.

Just wanted to let y'all know I am back. For good this time

Just keep at it. There will be times when you dont lose or even gain in a given week. The main thing is to stick with the program and allow your body time to sort things out. I think your medicine is probably a large part of the problem but sometimes the body just does quirky things. The first time I was on Atkins I would lose nothing for 3-4 weeks. Then I would gain 2 pounds just before a 3-4 pound loss. It is a maddening pattern, but it was my loss pattern. I just had to get used to it.
