So I started induction my last week of classes, and here we are now in finals week- just wanted to share the foods I usually eat and see if anyone had any tips on what else I could be eating or what on here I should be avoiding:

    Eggs or Egg Beaters
    Mild block cheddar
    Babybells
Salads with shredded cheddar, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, and some kind of protein on top
    Tuna with mayo
    Tea
Caffeine free, diet soda (I think I had 2 this week, 1 last week)
    2-3L of H2O a day
Cheesburgers (no bun of course) with mayo
Tomatoes chopped up with 1-2oz cream cheese in chunks
    Sugar free jello
Whipped cream (probably my biggest vice- I try to avoid it as much as possible, but I am still a weak soul on weekends and I like it in my tea)
Roast beef slices (luncheon meat) with american slices, rolled up
    Hard boiled eggs
Pre-made bacon (not sure if this is ok, don't eat much anyway)

I also had KFC grilled chicken this weekend, I love the stuff but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be ok for induction?
Also, are protein bars or whey protein okay as snacks and shakes respectively?
Does anyone use Calorie-countdown milk on induction? Haven't tried it yet, not sure if it's okay.

So yeah, those are my staples Any ideas for fun recipes to try this weekend when I go home and can cook for myself again (where can I find this 'induction pizza' recipe)??? Thanks!

Are you reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (20020?

    I wouldn't eat Egg Beaters.

The jello isn't a great choice ... it has no nutrition and counts as a sweetener.

American cheese is pretty processed ... even if it's "real" American and not the kind that comes in a plastic sleeve.

Is the whipped cream from a can or a tub? If it's from a carton, it's fine.

KFC Grilled chicken isn't acceptable on any phase of Atkins in my opinion ... it's more than chicken!

    The ingredients:

    KFC® Grilled Chicken
Fresh Chicken Marinated With: Salt, Sodium Phosphate, and Monosodium Glutamate. Seasoned With: Maltodextrin, Salt, Bleached Wheat Flour, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oil, Monosodium Glutamate, Secret Kentucky Grilled Chicken Spices, Palm Oil, Natural Flavor, Garlic Powder, Soy Sauce (Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Chicken Fat, Chicken Broth, Autolyzed Yeast, Beef Powder, Rendered Beef Fat, Extractives of Turmeric, Dehydrated Carrot, Onion Powder, and Not More Than 2% Each of Calcium Silicate and Silicon Dioxide Added As Anticaking Agents.
    Contains Wheat and Soy.

    >>protein bars or whey protein okay as snacks and shakes respectively?>>

    Real food is better.

Not all protein bars are Atkins friendly.

Any particular reason to avoid egg beaters; is it because they're processed?

The whipped cream I use is in the aerosal can from Reddi wip- extra creamy. Is there a way to make my own, btw? Thought I saw that somewhere once
When I use regular cream in anything it's the heavy whipping cream from a carton.

Alas, I'll have to ditch the KFC knowing all the extra crud they put in there now...

Read the list of ingredients! It's not Atkins friendly ... ever.

Yes. You need a beater/mixer and a bowl.

        That's my reason!

            Why egg beaters?

Other than the fact that they are processed, egg beaters also have more carbs than real eggs... according to USDA.

And being in college, I would assume you are trying to save money... and real eggs are cheaper. At least they are where I live...

Not okay for Induction, but you can add it back in OWL Rung 2.

              Re: College

Eggs: I buy egg beaters because we do not have a stove anywhere in my dorm which is available for students. Otherwise I would love to make my own eggs every morning since I much prefer those to egg beaters.

Weekend: I go home a lot on weekends and that's when I would always just eat whatever I felt like. I'm getting away from that bad habit so I can eat well all the time (not just when I'm on my own) and just saying no, but the urge is still there. Still in the process of conquering that sucker...

                C.Dork,

I just bought an electric hand mixer for my sons. They wanted to "borrow" my Good Kitchenaid mixer. No way, not lending that expensive mixer I got 15 years ago and love, not even to my sons. And I would probably never get it back!!! They live away from home...

I bought them a $6.50 elec mixer at Super Walmart 2 weeks ago. It will work just fine for things like whipping cream.

A clarification- is whipping cream like making merangue for pies? You just keep blending until it gets airy and frothy? I've never tried it before

Google "how to make whipped cream".

Or ... most cookbooks will tell you how to do it.

Well, meringue is made with egg whites, but it is the same process as far as you using the electric beater until the heavy cream gets to the firmer stage, but don't over beat, it will "break down." When it looks ready, stop, MORE is not better in this case.

So while we are doing a cooking lesson, it also helps to use a glass or stainless steel mixing bowl, no plastic bowls. And putting the bowl and mixer blades in the fridge for a while before mixing. Bowl and beater blades must be clean and dry. Keep the cream in the fridge until ready to use.

Yeah, I've made meringue before (despite my apparent lack of knowing how to spell ), I was just trying to make a comparison in techniques.

Thank you for clarifying, and the tips about how to do it best. I'm excited to try something new (always am when it comes to cooking and baking!)

Do you have access to a microwave in your dorm? There are plastic omelette and/or poached egg containers you can use to cook eggs in the microwave. They're kind of a pain to clean though lol.

To be honest I just eat from the dorms if something can't fit in my fridge or it requires a stove to be cooked. I don't go to restaurants much since that would require money which I currently lack. Same goes for the roast beef. I try to avoid the luncheon slices though since I know they have extra sodium and such in them.
