Re: Back again more determined than ever

Welcome back. I also have GB issues but this WOE doesn't bother it. It's better now then it ever was on low fat. If you decide you have to follow low fat I'd recommend switching to Weight Watchers. You can't really do Atkins low fat, it won't work long. You can lose well on WW too, I have in the past. Good luck with which ever fits your needs best.

Yeah, I know you are right, I really do know I cannot do low fat on Atkins, but maybe lower fat. I do not need to eat as much cheese or bacon and that kind of thing. I get what you are saying and the doctor said my gallstones are not that bad and if I want surgery to get rid of the attacks I can, but that attacks themselves are not hurting me. My stones are small manageable. I have to make sure I keep this plan as user friendly as possible while still watching the fat somewhat. I appreciate your advice and I will make sure to keep that in mind. I do not want to do weight watchers, I am a carb addict and I know that it is more important to deal with that then the fat if I have to make the choice !!
      Thanks,

Re: Back again more determined than ever

Yeah the carbs on WW get me too. I find I use my points for all the wrong foods. Or if I do core I'm eating bags of popcorn. Even though I lose weight I'm not as healthy on it as I am on this WOE.

I don't do as high fat as some others on here. I don't add gobs of butter or lots of oil. I eat turkey bacon instead of regular because I don't like the fatty taste of regular bacon. Unless I make hot wings I eat boneless skinless chicken breast. If I need more fat I try to get it from some avacado or something that won't trigger any attacks. I can eat cheese as long as I don't over do it, it's mostly milk and ice cream that get mine fired up with the dairy.

Re: Back again more determined than ever

Well, after a couple of starts and stops I am back in the saddle again. After my doc wanted me to start diabetes meds, cholesterol meds and thyroid meds I knew I had to get back in line and do what I have to do. In one day of low carb I have brought my sugars from the 111 to 96 range down to 89 and decided not to take my evening pill and give up the diabetes meds while I work hard on low carb to get my weight off and numbers where they need to be. I am on the thyroid and that is it. I am not taking the statin drugs I just have to eat low carb and pound it through my hard head that this is how I have to eat for life. If I do not want to be taking a ton of meds and get sicker and sicker this is my only chance to be healthy and not have to go down that sick road. I am pretty determined. Being given a meter and having to test my blood is something I do not want to do any longer than I have to. I will continue to test and as long as I stay low and not have any spikes, I will stay off the meds and will confess all to my doctor on my next visit. He will not be happy I am sure.
It is good to be back and I am reading everything I can find on the board. There is so much support and knowledge here.
          Good to be back again.

Re: Back again more determined than ever

Aww Stephie, I just read through all of your posts in this thread and I sure feel for you, girl! I know what it's like to say "ENOUGH" only to fall the next week, or even the next day!

I think that for girls in our age group (I'm 42) we need understand that the weight just doesn't come off the way it used to, and that we are more susceptible to illness if we are overweight. Changing our diet needs to be a way of life, rather than a time to just drop the weight.

I'm glad you are back and determined. Gonna friend you, perhaps we can check on eachother now and then?

You are so right. It is a for life health choice. I joined this board in 2004 and you would think I would have gotten it by now. It took getting hit over the head really hard this time to get my full attention.
I am so glad you found me, it will be nice to have someone to share this low carb journey with. It is always more fun with friends !!
              Thanks for the support !!
