Hadn't gotten started yet, huh? Whoever gave us the idea you had? Why, you did, of course.

You don't want to be "lectured"? Then don't post posts like that. Did you really think you'd get a bunch of atta'boys and way-to-gos for...for....I don't know what that was. It certainly wasn't "transitioning" into anything either, despite your claim. Looked to me to be the "Fat and Protein Gorgefest '09".

As far as ketostix? Look at that. Number one hit when you Google "purpose of ketostix":

And you have to read the entire thread to have your question answered. atkinsgal08 answer is the Cliff Notes in case you can't be bothered.

it wasn't intended to start induction, i was intending to cut the trouble foods out of my life and work my way towards induction, and then to my surprise i was (according to ketostix) in ketosis. I'm also feeling the loss of appetite and whatnot as well.

i was just posting my surprise and elation, not an invitation to be lectured about how i did everything wrong when i hadn't even really gotten started yet.

if the ketostix don't show anything, then why do they exist, why did the late dr promote them for this purpose, etc?
      thanks you!

Ketosis and The Ketogenic Ratio - Q&A | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald

There are a number of problems with Ketostix not the least of which is that urinary ketone concentration is at best a very indirect indicator of what’s going on in the body. True ketosis is defined in terms of blood concentrations (terms ketonemia), not urine (terms ketonuria). But since you can’t easily measure ketones in the blood (no, you can’t put blood on the Ketostix, I tried it years ago and it doesn’t work), the next best thing is urinary ketones.

Now, obviously, if you have ketones in your urine, you certainly have them in your bloodstream. However, the absence of ketones in the urine doesn’t mean that you’re not still in ketosis (as defined by blood concentrations). You might be in ketosis as measured by blood levels but simply not be excreting any in the urine. Or not excreting enough to change the Ketostix.

Basically, there are a variety of things that influence whether or not there are enough ketones present to be excreted in the urine in sufficient quantities to make the Ketostix change colors. For example, you might not be making ketones in sufficient quantities (this happens in lean people, especially if they are very active), lots of water can dilute your urine and the ketone concentration, some other variables can impact on whether or not you show ketones on the Ketostix.

As you might imagine, at the end of the day, I don’t think focusing on ketosis per se (or the lack thereof) or the Ketostix is very valuable. You can develop deep ketosis by gorging on dietary fat (especially Medium Chain Triglycerides) but your calories will be so high that you won’t be losing much, if any fat, that way. And you can lose fat without ever showing a single ketone in the urine. Basically, there’s just no real correlation between ketosis, what the Ketostix are showing and fat loss.

Basically, I have seen too many dieters focusing on the Ketostix instead of what’s important: relative amounts of fat and lean body mass lost. Focus on the latter, if you’re losing fat and maintaining lean body mass, your diet (low-carbohydrate or otherwise) is working, whether you are in ketosis or not.
And for the record I never said it was definitive; I merely pointed out it "was likely" due to what you stated you ate.

the operative words were "working my way into" and "transitioning into".

I'm sorry, but atkins, and all ketogenic diets, are "fat and protein gorgefest '09". Please don't bring your own preconceptions that because you've never eaten broccoli in your life when you aren't on a diet, that eating 2 cups of vegetables a day is somehow invalidating all the fats and protein you're eating which you imply are a problem.

Complaining about fat and protein makes me wonder what you're doing on atkins

              >>atkins, ... , are "fat and protein gorgefest '09">>

Not according to Dr. Atkins's book.

You eat until you're satisfied, not stuffed.

And you eat more vegetables than "fat and protein".

              >>makes me wonder what you're doing on atkins, but i really don't care.>>

              How true that statement is!

                Re: Kkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeettttttttooooooosssssssiiiiiiiii ssssssssssssssssss !!!!!!!!!!!

As I said, best wishes, Meat. You have much to learn and very little idea who your audience is. But nobody can tell you how to do this, can they. After all, you've "read the book". Twice.

And I think it is great you aired your dirty laundry out where anyone with a computer cruising by can see it by transferring it onto me because you didn't like what you read. Eating (conservatively) almost 3,000 calories of fat and protein in the form of bacon, cheese, chicken, butter and avocado is not Atkins, I don't care how you slice that cake, Sparky. Or "transitioning into Atkins" for that matter if you want to keep insisting that's what you meant all along. And for your own edification since you refuse to track it yourself, you didn't eat "sky high" carb, you ate about 8% IIRC.

I'm done with this thread and I'm done trying to help you after your passive-aggressive little tantrum. I'll just sit back from here on out and enjoy the show. But please do continue to think I'm something I'm not and denigrate me publicly if it'll give you the motivation to "prove me wrong" and actually learn how to do Atkins.

By the way, vBulletin allows one to "ignore" people you don't want to read posts from under "user CP". I'd look into that if I were you.

Its amazing how some of you people are so rude and come off as holier than thou if anyone does something outside of your scope of "what's right".

Thanks for tipping me off about the ignore function, that was surely your best advice.

Again, I am amazed when people come to the ATKINS DIET Bulletin Board and are offended when they are given advice or told how to do the diet properly.

There are other low carb websites to join that are not exclusively Atkins if you do not want to hear the right way to follow supplied by well intentioned, informed members.

And pointing out these "non Atkins" ways also helps other members by pointing out what is wrong, so new people do not mistakenly think the wrong info posted is actually part of the Atkins WOL/WOE.

If you post things contrary to the Atkins way, it WILL be pointed out that is is not the correct way.

And the last thing I want to say is there is no need for name calling.
