  • Does my food intake look ok?

    Hi everyone! I'm new to the board and this is day 5 of me being on the Atkins diet.

    Would anyone mind taking a look at what I've been eating and let me know if this looks ok?

    I've been eating 20 carbs a day. I tend to round up on my carbs a bit just in case. I've had eggs for breakfast every morning so far, usually 2 or 3 each morning scrambled (no milk). I have a salad for lunch each day with 1 tbsp blue cheese dressing (1 carb for the dressing) and sometimes 3 slices of bacon, OR 2 celery sticks OR 2 oz of cheese. One day I had a small tomato with my salad, another day I grilled a chicken breast sprinkled with garlic powder. For dinner I've had chicken wings (probably not the greatest, but not the worst thing I could have eaten) chicken breast with cheddar cheese on top and broccoli, bacon and sausage one night and homemade turkey soup with turkey, low sodium broth, tiny bit of onion and some mushrooms. I drink a couple glasses of water each day (more than I ever have, but probably should up the amount) and I've also had a small glass of diet pepsi every day. For snacks I usually about 2 oz cheddar cheese, 2 sticks of celery, a string cheese, or a few pieces of shrimp.

    Does this sound ok? It's probably not perfect but I hope it's not too bad. Should I be eating more meat? What would you do different?

    Chicken wings should be fine. Did they have something added to them? Did you read the ingredients?

      Are these net carbs or total carbs? How many of your net carbs are coming from vegetables?
      - These are net carbs, I think, I'm not sure what the difference is? Something to do with fiber right? I write everything down (have the Atkins carb counter book and use that for all my totals) and then add them up after each meal.

      Are you using FitDay or are you counting on paper?
      - paper

      What veggies do you use in this?
      - it's some kind of fancy lettuce, not iceburg lettuce. I eat 1 cup a day, sometimes 2 loosely packed. I don't add any veggies to the salad, except a celery stick on the side.

      Chicken wings should be fine. Did they have something added to them? Did you read the ingredients?
      - it was chicken wings with a sauce mixture of hot sauce (label said 0 carbs, but I know there we're probably a few in there) mixed with butter. Thats it.

          Net carbs are total carbs minus dietary fiber. It's net carbs we count.

                Your food choices look good, assuming you are not overeating your cheese (3-4 ounces max).

                But you are woefully short of the 8 x 8 ounce glasses of water it seems to me!
                Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
                Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                  Thank for your input I have never been a water drinker, but I'm trying really hard to get the 64 ounces in each day. I just need to work a bit harder.

                    I managed to 'up' my water in the beginning by keeping a sports-top bottle of water beside the computer and taking a sip each time the screen refreshed or I switched tasks. It amazed me how quickly I needed to refill it!
