  • The Movies- snacks

I know this is a habit thing and not a hunger thing- but I am bringing my son and his friends to the movies tomorrow night and the popcorn thing is REALLY going to challenge me.

I feel committed to not having any... but I am looking for suggestions for other movie theater snacks that might divert my attention.

I am thinking of bringing some of Linda's cheese crisps... any other suggestions?

    A bottle of water.

Seriously ... eat before you go.

You don't need to crunch your way through a movie ...

People sitting around you will appreciate the quiet, too!

I'd sneak in some sunflower seeds or almonds (provided your able to have them in your phase of the diet, I'm not 100% sure when you can have em). That way you get the crunch of the popcorn, while having a much better choice.

Thats what I plan to do when I go to movies and am able to eat seeds and nuts.

Hi Erik- I am only on induction, so no nuts for me! That will come though.

AG- I hear you, but I am concerned that if I go empty handed I might be setting myself up for failure. I don't want to make a stupid impulsive decision. I'd rather have something "safe" in case I need it.

            Need or "want"?

            There's a difference, you know.

If you've eaten before you go, why would you need to eat during a movie?

            Take some cheese then.

            Be considerate ... no crunching!

              What are going to see?
cheese crackers are a good thought. If you like those pork rinds - you can flavour them up different ways. A cheese string or two? Definitely bring some water. And a lot of self contol. Remember you are learning new habits here. We need to change our habits in order to eventually get thinner and stay there. Popcorn is so expensive at movie theatres - you can buy a whole outfit for those kind of money - and something cute and small

I've taken celery, Linda's cheese crisps, string cheese and pork rinds at different times. I think for Avatar I may have had them all lol. Bottled water to drink of course.

WoW, AG- did you have a bad experience at the movies next to a cruncher? ;-)

I know this is habit and not hunger- that's exactly what I said that at the beginning of the post. I know there is a difference between need and want- I also know myself and my patterns well enough to know that I haven't tamed my impulses with enough consistency to rely on them.

Weak? Sure, but I'd rather approach the situation prepared.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I've never actually tried Pork Rinds. I have a feeling water and cheese crisps will be good to have on hand.

I'm there with you on the popcorn - love it!!! I know some people can think of the difference between need and want, can't we all? But when you are sitting in the theater smelling it... oh my gosh. I'm going to look up the cheese crisp recipe. Also, guess I didn't realize we could have pork rinds. I've never eaten those, but my husband has. I'm looking for something crunchy. Just to make sure - pork rinds are okay on induction - right?

                          Yes, pork rinds are acceptable.

However, they don't really provide any nutrition.

Also, make sure to read the list of ingredients ... the flavored ones generally have sugar.

Maybe before you go next time make up some beef jerky to take along. This time I'd use porkrinds and your cheese crisps if you want a snack.
