  • Not much veg in menu, will this hurt progress?

I have to admit upon doing this induction for three weeks now, I have not had as many veggies as I am supposed to have. I will go days without having any veg just because I didn't take the time to steam them. I have been living on mostly just eggs, chopmeat, butter, flaxseed, tuna, mayo and romain lettuce with olive oil and vinegar.

I understand going without veggies is not healthy as atkins mentions. My question is if one does not have veggies, will this affect weight loss?

There are days where I am UNDER 20g of carb a day. Will this affect the ketosis and weightloss?

(Yes, I am going to plan my veg meals from now on!) I just wanted to know if not having veg affect the fat burning process?
On Induction since: Jan 25th 2010

You will be in ketosis whether or not you're eating vegetables.

Strictly for weight loss, what will probably happen is that you will create some vitamin deficiencies, which will slow down your metabolism... and will then take time to correct.

    Do you have a microwave?

As Georiana said you will probably be nutrient deficient. But you note that you are having romaine lettuce. That is a nutrient dense vegetable, add some more "salad" veggies to your salad. That's what you are supposed to do on induction anyway.

As far as fat burning, I can only hazard an educated guess. Many, many people here see their fat loss improve upon eating more vegetables, I would assume that removing them entirely would affect it somewhat. I think you would still lose but maybe more slowly than if you were eating.

For me, on induction, my veggies consist of a salad with one meal, and some broccoli or cauliflower, with another meal.

I hope this helps, good luck.

thanks guys, no, I do not have a microwave.. I am one of those that doesn't even like cooking period. But I do since I want to loose!

I didn't realize not have certain nutrients slow down your metabolism... ok good thanks for telling me that.

It's really tough because since i am out of work I cannot even afford to buy supplements!

Supplements do not replace real food anyway. It's important to make the best you can out of your 20 net carbs allowed during Induction... and that means eating vegetables and making good choices for them (not 3 cups of lettuce, for example).

Moving to OWL would be a good idea, too.

why do you suggest to move to OWL? I think I didn't loose enough. I don't own a scale so I cannot measure in pounds how much I have lost but I have noticed a SLIGHT change but not as much as some other people on induction. That is why I wanted to stay on it as an extended...

why move to OWL do you think?

Many people here report a better weight loss on OWL. I personally prefer the variety OWL allows. As I went through OWL the first time I worked up through the rungs but kept my carb count very low, closer to Induction levels than I probably should have. But OWL is where you are supposed to do most of your weight loss, because that is where you learn what foods not to eat that are trigger or problem foods for you.

              Keep up the good work.

So that you add more nutritious carbohydrate-containing foods to your diet. For many, adding more vegetables increases the rate at which they lose. Not to mention that it would also be better for your health.

                I think I didn't loose enough.
There isn't such thing as losing "enough" on Induction. The purpose of this phase is not to lose X lbs, but to initiate fat burning... which you did.

not as much as some other people on induction
Does comparing yourself with others really help? You will lose at the rate at which your body wants you to lose... and at the rate at which you allow it to lose with the food choices you make. A nutritionally poor diet generally results in slower weight loss. It's not only about net carbs.
