Good to see you came to ADBB instead!

Some of the others have recommended an cream cheese/Splenda/cocoa ice-cream like concoction to tide them through cravings.

Do you know that diet coke (made by Coca-Cola) uses aspartame? It also has caffeine... unless you drink the caffeine-free one...

      Read this, Lauren.

This is one of the reasons we stress to people to beat the sugar demon and turn to regular food (like a boiled egg, or a piece of cheese, etc)instead of a fake sweet thing when they get sugar cravings.

I'm in the "just stay away from sweets even though they are fake sweet flavors" camp. Someone once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." If your sweet tooth leads to your downfall, stay away from the fake sweets.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

This is why you are failing....You're not ready to accept that the food you are eating on Atkins is "good food". As long as you think you are being forced to eat "yucky" food, you will continue to have difficulties with this diet.

Sugar is an anti-nutrient. Heck, even the diet experts the government has hired are now saying that. Carbs are good and bad. Bad carbs are the ones like refined flour, which has no nutritional value at all.

The food on the Atkins foods list is minimally processed, minimally refined. It's whole food that's packed with nutrients. That's "good food". It's tasty food too. The problem is alot of people's tastebuds are mumbed from all that sugar they eat and they can't taste the natural goodness of real food. I remember someone posted that they almost threw up because they saw some kid pour 4 packets of sugar into a large regular Coke because the Coke wasn't sweet enough.

Sugar is addictive too, which is why you are craving it. I bet your "normal" diet is filled with sugary or sugary tasting "food" or with of pre-packaged, processed foods that contain sugar. I bet you used to eat low fat products too. Guess what, you know how that make low fat stuff taste good? They add sugar.

So, you if you want an easier time with this diet or any other diet, you have to start believing and knowing that the food you are eating is "good food". Once you believe the food is "bad", you've lost 99.99999999% of your battle.

This is something that is legal and always kicks any sugar crave I used to get:

                Mock Danish

                1 oz cream cheese
                1 egg
                1 splenda packet
                1 dash of vanilla
                1 dash of cinnamon

in a small bowl blend all ingredients together really well, use an electric mixer - its great. then heat in microwave for 1:25. put a dab of butter on it and voila!

If you want something more bready you can add 1 tsp ground flax - flax also helps keep you regular

This is so good and well definitely help kick the sugar cravings
                F 24 5'10 SW - 217 GW 170 restarted atkins 1/14/08 - This time I'm sticking with it!

I think exactly the same, especially in the first weeks of induction I think anything sweetened is a big no no, if you stay away from anything sweet it will help you get away from your sugar-addiction, if you feed your addiction by giving it an artificial sweetener you won't get away from it at all and the cravings will stay.
Try to do a clean induction and make sure you take your supplements and drink your water and when you get cravings, do as Moochiecat says, take a boiled egg or some cheese instead and come here to talk to us, you will be soooooo proud of yourself !!!!!

                    Lauren,
It is very possible that the aspertame in your diet coke is a big part of the cravings you discribe. I know this from experience. In the beginning of my weightloss journey I did this very same mistake that you are doing now.

Like the rest of the great advice you are recieving here, you do have to break that addiction to all sweet foods,(sugar and sugarless) if you want to succeed.

Once you break this addiction, you will find the strength and motivation that you are longing for. I speak from experience. I have been there!

I will eat the Atkins way for the rest of my life.

Actually it wasn't the best choice. You used a sweet-tasting product to satisfy your sugar cravings. That really doesn't teach your body to break its sugar addiction at all. It's like an alcoholic drinking mouthwash instead of vodka to satisfy their alcohol craving.

Lauren, have you heard of the vitamin called L-Glutamine? I can get it at WalMart. It REALLY helps with the "sweet tooth". I take 2,000 mg a day.

I found if you stay "clean" from any sweets for 2 weeks and take L-Glutamine, then if you do cave to something sweet it will taste like crap.
