  • I fell off the wagon... Back on, but I have a few questions

    Good morning,

I fell (actually, I'd say I jumped) off the wagon Saturday night. My family was over and everyone was drinking wine, so I joined right in. Knowing I'd already blown it, I had some tortillas, blackberries, and a few chips, too. The good news is that none of it (except the berries - I really miss fruit) tasted that great and it wasn't worth it. Knowing that, I don't think I'll mess up again. However, I have some questions...

The first week, I lost 8 1/2 pounds. The second week, I didn't lose anything. I'm drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day, but often more. The thing I changed was going from spinach salad at lunch (with eggs and bacon on it in addition to chicken or salmon) to romaine lettuce with no eggs or bacon and protein. I started before I bought the book and realized too late that spinach wasn't on the salad list. So, in trying to follow the book, my weight loss has dropped? Should I go back to the spinach.

This is a sample of what I ate the first week compared to the second week.

2 eggs and 3 bacon for breakfast
2 cups of coffee each with 1 1/2 tbsp of cream and 1 splenda packet

2 cups of spinach with 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms, an egg, 1 slice bacon and a chicken breast or salmon. drizzle with mayo mixed with olive oil

dinner - chicken breast, steak, or salmon with 1 cup of asparagus, cooked with a little olive oil

1 cup of hot tea - no cream or sweetener

    Second week:

    2 eggs
    3 bacon
    coffee - same way

    lunch:

2 cups of romaine lettuce, 1/4 cup sliced cucumber, piece of chicken or salmon drizzled with olive oil and red wine vinegar

    dinner:

ground beef mixed with 1/4 cup of onion, 1/4 cup of bell peppers, 1/2 cup of mushrooms with 2 oz of cheese

cup of hot tea - no cream or sweetener

I started off weighing 177, got down to 168.5, but am back up to 170 today. (Stupid wine)...

Anyway, thanks so much for any advice or thoughts...

    Kim

Your menu sounds fine and it's very common not to lose every week. The first week we lose a bunch of water weight and then it starts to slow down to one to two pounds a week. Your body is just in that adjustment/hesitation time.

Spinach is fine, it's on the list, or it should be. Spinach is tough to measure because it cooks down so much, but its wonderful for you.
Try to vary your menu so you don't get bored with it all.

      >> cups of coffee each with 1 1/2 tbsp of cream>>

The limit of cream is 2-3 Tbs. Just be aware.

Spinach is a perfectly acceptable vegetable. It's on the "other" vegetable list.

Your biggest mistake was "Knowing I'd already blown it," ... continuing on making more and more "mistakes" isn't a productive way of living ... you stop making the mistakes and make the next bite Atkins.

I agree. I should have minimized right away, but I didn't and I'm going to pay for it for much longer than it lasted!

Thanks for the responses. I walk the fine line with the cream. Today, I only had 1 cup of coffee, so I am at 1 1/2 tbsp.
