  • My mistakes during induction...

I lasted 3 days and totally blew my induction right out the window.

After feeling disappointed, I think I shall review what I did wrong and I would like some feedback from Atkins veterans.

My first excuse is that, ahem, on day 3 I started "that time of the month" and for the women on here I hope you can at least shed a tiny bit of sympathy! I was a crabby bitchy mess and my hormones were screaming for chocolate! I guess because that is how I responded to those hormones my whole life instead of reading it as a carb craving.

I know there is a separate thread for review of menus, but I would like to put my Day 1 menu on here and I will point out what I think may have been mistakes, and I really would love some feedback and advice as I plan on cleaning up my act a bit and starting a fresh "clean" induction as you all call it. Anywho, down to business:

    Day 1 menu
    ----------------

Breakfast : 2 hard boiled eggs w/ 1 pat butter each, 4 slices (uncured) bacon, 1 cup coffee w/ 3 tbsp cream

Lunch: 1 can drained tuna mixed w 2 tbsp mayonaise (NOT Miracle Whip), 1 cup raw veggies (cucumber slices + yellow pepper strips) w/ 2 Tbsp garlic cream cheese

Snack: 1 Atkins Advantage bar (the one that CLAIMS it's safe to eat on phase 1) 2 ounces hard chees (cheddar + mozza)

Dinner: 4 bacon-wrapped scallops, 1 italian sausage, 1 cup sauteed broccoli w/ 1 tbsp olive oil.

Lots of water during the day (8 or 9 cups)

30 mins mini trampolining + weight lifting.

Some of the mistakes I may have made are having a few of those bars, eating too much onion, and having 1-2 cups of caffeine each day. Plus maybe too much bacon?

I am a SUGAR FEENE!!! If I was doing 3 days of induction properly, I should have felt the effects of the induction flu, but I felt NOTHING. Maybe I wasn't doing it clean enough? Any thoughts on how to clean it up a bit and start fresh? Perhaps stay away from the bars and the caffeine and onions? Advice s'il vous plait!

The daily limit of cream is 2-3 Tbs.

    >> Lots of water during the day (8 or 9 cups)>>

That's 64-72 cups, assuming you're really drinking 8 ounce cups. 64 ounces is the bare minimum, and aiming for 1/2 your current body weight in ounces of water would probably be better for you.

    >>1 Atkins Advantage bar>>

I would eliminate this. It's probably keeping cravings alive for you.

    >>4 bacon-wrapped scallops>>

    Store bought or homemade?

    >>1 italian sausage>>

Is there dextrose or any other form of sugar in this?

Do you know how many net carbs you ate? How many are from Induction vegetables?

You're on the edge of cheese ... the limit is 3-4 ounces.

Not everyone experiences the so-called "Induction flu".

        Re: My mistakes during induction...

Hi, yeah I figured I was on the edge with the cheese, I must cut that down a bit. The sausages didn't have any of those ingredients at all and had no carbs or sugar of any kind. The bacon-wrapped scallops were homemade. I bought the scallops myself .They were fresh from the fish monger at the grocery store and I wrapped each of them in half a strip of uncured bacon.

I really loved those Atkins treat bars, but I will stay away from them until I'm ready to move on to OWL. As I wish to lose quite a bit of weight, I plan on staying on extended induction. I would like to lose at least a significant amount of weight by the first week of July as I'm going to see my father and want to look nice and feel healthier.

I think I'll cut down my coffee/tea to one cup every other day, pump up my water intake, eat leaner meats (I'll not eat it for breakfast and keep it perhaps for bacon wrapped scallops once a week as a treat) as I have not had chicken yet or a nice steak, but what about onions? Should I cut them out? I could eat a whole chopped onion a day....

          >>The sausages didn't have any of those ingredients at all and had no carbs or sugar of any kind.>>

          What were the ingredients, exactly?

          >> I really loved those Atkins treat bars, but I will stay away from them until I'm ready to move on to OWL.>>

They're probably not any better for you on OWL.

          >>As I wish to lose quite a bit of weight, I plan on staying on extended induction. >>

That may not be the best plan. Most of your weight should be lost on OWL. Staying on Induction too long backfires for many ... if not most.

          >>I would like to lose at least a significant amount of weight by the first week of July a>>

Women lose at the statistical rate of 1/2 to 1 pound per week.

          >>eat leaner meats >>

As you know, Atkins is a high fat way of eating. If you have leaner meats, you need to get the fat some way.

          >>I'll not eat it for breakfast>>

          There's no reason not to.

Don't try to do a low fat version of Atkins ... as you know from reading the book, that simply doesn't work.

          >>what about onions? Should I cut them out? I could eat a whole chopped onion a day..>>

Depending on how large "whole" onion is, that's probably too much, carb wise.

Don't forget to count your net carbs.

TOM is nasty for craving control so just hang in there and make the very next bite atkins legal and get back to your induction as day 4 and keep going.

drop the bar and see how it goes. your foods look good except you are a little short on your veggies add another cup of the them maybe as part of your breakfast.

try going with one T of cream in your coffee and see if you like it that way. if you need some more add another 1/2 T until you either enjoy it that way or you reach your daily limit.

Atkins is a high fat moderate protein low carb eating plan so don't cut back to lean meat unless you want to add a fat to them.

have you gotten a free fitday.com account? if not get one and plug your foods into it and see how you are doing with your fats proteins and carbs. enter everything as raw cause fitday adds ingredeints to things and currently doesn't tell you so.

              Re: My mistakes during induction...

I decided to review the book's cornerstone rules once again and I decided to restart induction on a fresh foot. Typing this while I'm eating my breakfast of a 3-egg omelette with green pepper, onions and a little mozza cheese cooked in a pan greased with a little olive oil and butter and 1 cup of decaf tea w/ 1 splenda and 2 tbsp cream. Yay!!!!

Sounds like a good start. Have some water as well and you are off to a super start.

Rather than start counting your days all over, just clean up what you're doing and continue on.

You can't do "day 1" again!

Well, I completed my first day on my re-started induction! Here's what I ate:

Breakfast: 1 cup decaf tea w/2 tbsp cream and 2 Splenda, 3-egg omelette w/ mozza cheese, onions, green pepper.

Lunch: chicken salad (2 skinless boneless chicken breast cut in strips and cooked in olive oil, salt +pepper on top of 1 cup salad veggies & 2 tbsp feta cheese) with homemade dressing (olive oil, 3 garlic cloves and lime juice mixed in a food processor)

Dinner: 1 steak topped with 1 tbsp Worcester sauce + steak spice, sauteed broccoli

                    LOTS of water.

what was the fat for your broccoli?

looks like you are doing well. oh and remember to concnetrate on your food when eating cause their is a feedback loop in your brain to tewll you when to stop and if you are typing on the net or watching TV while eating your brain will be distracted and not tell you enough, stop! some folk call it mindless eatting.
