  • Another mayo question

My mayo (Kraft) says 0 carbs on the nurtional label, and I just checked in the little Atkins carb counter handbook and it was shown in there (specifically the Kraft one) as having 0.0 carbs...

But in the bottom of the ingredients, it says, "less than 2% of..." and then one of the things listed is sugar... so is it okay or not for induction? I'm so confused. I know that in the USA, they can round down to 0 if there is less than 0.5 carbs per serving, but if Atkins book, which shows down to the tenth of a carb, also says 0.0... well then were did that sugar on the ingredients list go? I use a lot of mayo and I don't want it adding up without my knowing, ya know?

Most people are fine with the small amount of added sugar in commercial mayo.

But as you figured out, it does have some carbs, since the ingredients have carbs. It's not only the added sugar, but also the eggs and whatever else is used in Kraft's recipe.

Is this their new carb counter? Some of their carb counts are wrong in the book and on the Atkins website.

DANDR 2002 lists 0.1 net carbs for 1 teaspoon of mayo.

I saw that in the 2002 book, but that was for mayo in general, right?

The 0.0 for specifically Kraft Mayo came from the little ~$5 pocket size Atkins carb handbook. LOL I read it in the book store tonight but didn't buy it so I'm not sure of the exact title. There were 3 or 4 different specific mayos in it, and the others had levels such as 0.3 carbs... this is the only one that had 0.0.

Good to know I shouldn't trust the books all the time though

I think I'll use up this Mayo since I have it but then switch to Trader Joe's brand as it actually has no sugar in the ingredients. And you're right about the eggs adding a little bit of carbs too. I wasn't even thinking about those.
