    Hi Guys,
This is my 2nd time on Induction. (Began it 3/12/10) First time was Fall of '07. Did GREAT!!! It was easy and it worked. Of course, combined it with exercise which is also easy for me. Then I had my 2nd knee surgery (and a few more birthdays!)

Over this past fall and winter, I've put on a few pounds that I'd like to lose. I'm 5'4 1/2, beginning weight was 141. I am on Premarin due to Menopause, have had a hysterectomy. Also, on Levoxyl due to removal of my Thyroid. I'm 54 years old. And I have a few other "annoying" health concerns - most of which are autoimmune.

Anyway, I've been faithfully following Induction - putting everything I eat and all exercising, etc. into my journal - both on Fitday and my own. I workout out at the gym 5x/week with cardio and weight training. I lost 5 lbs. and over the past few days, I either haven't lost anything or have put some of it back on. I'm drinking more than adequate amts of water daily, taking Atkins recommended supplements to get over the metabolic resistance syndrome.

Since it came off easier a few years ago, am I just expecting too much too soon. I'm even counting calories now (which I didn't do before). I'm trying to keep my calorie intact around 1200, carbs are between 15-20. I know it needs to be 20, but I'm getting as close to it as possible without going over. All recipes are from the "Induction Friendly" category or from Linda's, plus I'm doing my own counts.

I had the same medical concerns in '07 - so what gives this time? Any help or guidance you can give would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to get too frustrated too soon. It hasn't even been 2 weeks yet.

    Thanks,
    JC

    Yes.

    >>m trying to keep my calorie intact around 1200,>>

    That's probably too low.

You might want to try eating at 10-12 times your current weight in calories.

You have a different body, a different metabolism.

      Thanks Atkinsgal108
I know I'm being too critical. I'll try increasing calories and make sure I'm getting enough fat. It just takes time. I also just read that I should expect to lose about 10 - 15% of the amt of weight I want to lose - i.e. 15 lbs would equate to about .75 - 1.5 lbs. Anyway, I'll keep plugging along.

Also, really need ideas on this - When I go to the gym in the early early AM - I literally can't eat much that early. So ... I've been having an Atkins shake before I go so I have something in my tummy. Guess that's not going to work this time around. So I need ideas for quick - not too heavy and NOT time consuming.

Looking for protein shake but can't find one Induction friendly. Any other ideas?
      Thanks again

You shouldn't really "expect" anything ... that's when disappointment happens.

A shake would be fine before a workout.

I responded on your other thread about the 'egg-nog shake' that many of our members find satisfying in the mornings.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

eating before a workout isn't required nor needed.

have you had your free T4 and free T3 checked to be sure your thyroid is in range for you?

your body comp this time around isn't the same as last time and your metabolism will be different as a result.

hang in there work your induction and see where you are on day 15 before you decide something is worng with your atkins if you are following the rules

              Re: Dissapointed

I make a broccoli quiche for my breakfast, it's not too heavy and easy to reheat each day. The recipe is on Linda's Low Carb site:

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

I like mushrooms better than onions so I use them instead.

It's not uncommon to stall a bit after Induction. Just keep doing the right things and it will work, just not always as fast as you'd like. Are you measuring? Are you sure your thyroid levels are correct? Be sure to re-read the sections of the book on medications and other health conditions that might affect weight loss.

                  Re: Dissapointed

Thanks for the input. I'm due to have my thyroid levels checked again. It's been a struggle getting it within proper ranges over the years since it was removed.

And yes, I've read and reread the section on metabolic resistance and am taking the additional supplements for that. Yep, I'm just in a different time of life with all of the "wonderful challenges" it presents. I need to tell myself I love my body instead of seeing everything wrong with it. Past few days were just a bit frustrating, but I'll move along though it.

I'm grateful for this site and all of you.

if they are doing atkins they need to have consumed their food hours before in order for the proteins and fats to be digested and availible for making new body energy molecules. it isn't like downing a sugar compound and having that fuel availible in 20 mins.
the human body will react to low ATP signals from muscles and release body stored fatty acids and begin glucogenesis. Since Atkinseers muscles adapt to the high fat low carb diet by storing fatty acids for quicker making of body energy units ATP there isn't the lag time high carbers have when their glucose energy is used up. food eatten before a workout is just sitting in the stomach durnig a workout done post eating the food.
