  • Easter is coming!!

    Hello folks,

I want to know how people manage to get through Easter and all that CHOCOLATE

I have two children who will have eggs given them and i have to try and learn not to go near them.

Tell me what your going to do?

    Re: Easter is coming!!

I don't have children....but I will be spending Easter Sunday with a boatload of relatives! I'm sure the children there will be rolling in their chocolates and candies. But think of it like this: do you want to lose weight and get healthy or do you want to remain overweight and not healthy?

Put yourself first. You and your health are far more important than a piece of chocolate or a piece of cake.

      Re: Easter is coming!!

I do not have children around, but have always had little wrapped eggs sitting on the shop counter for my customers in the weeks running up to Easter.

I used to be tempted but told myself 'they are not for you, they are for your customers' and of course if I had eaten them I would have had to go out and buy more etc, etc, so managed not to indulge.

If telling yourself that they are not yours but your children's doesn't work, maybe you can sort yourself out some real eggs instead - hardboiled, devilled etc to eat whenever the temptation hits you?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

My pantry is always stocked with snacks for the kids. I have an insane amount of ice cream in my deep freeze right now thanks to an awesome sale at the store. Every flavor you can imagine including my fave mint chip. You just have to decide if you are going to eat carp or lose weight, can't have both. I've chosen lose weight. Candy is not even a temptation anymore. I am tempted by other things like real bread and real nachos mmmmm. But it passes if I resist.

The smell thing is a biggie. Oh! I just thought of something. I use a drop of peppermint essential oil to make my mouth taste cleaner, especially around allergy time. (drop it on the back of my hand then lick it off--don't ew, my hands are clean!) Thinking about chocolate and peppermint extract doesn't sound appealing at all to me. Maybe I'll try that.

My mom bought some easter candy and it looks so good, but just being curious, i looked at the lables and starburst jelly beans are like 37 grams of carbs for 1/4 cup! Thats definatly a no-no. But...i looked at the lable for Resees easter eggs and 1 egg is 9 grams (>1 g fiber, 8 grams sugar). Yes, this is all sugar but i dont see why this would hurt if you only eat one, that would still leave 11 grams throughout the day which is good for me.

The "all sugar" ... how does that work for Atkins exactly ... eating 8 grams of the very item we're supposed to avoid?

If you think it won't "hurt", then I urge you to start rereading your 2002 DANDR!

There are a lot of people who were doing great, losing weight, and then a holiday came along and they said,

"i dont see why this would hurt if you only eat one".

And for many...that was the beginning of an all out binge that took days, weeks, months, and years to come back from. But that may not be how it works out for you....

And remember that it is the ingredients that should be helping you decide whether to eat any foods (or not) not just the carb counts.

I didnt realize what book this board went by untill after i bought it. Someone please fill me in. I mean I have been eating everything with like no sugar...i was just saying...

The New Atkins for a New You doesn't allow chocolate eggs either.

In fact, it specifically says that you should be eating 20 net carbs, with 12-15 of them coming from Induction vegetables. How does the chocolate egg fit into this?

Furthermore, the new book, just like DANDR 2002, also states that you should not be eating foods that are not on the Acceptable Induction Foods list. No chocolate eggs in my copy of the book...

It's not the grams of fiber and sugar that need to be less than 20... it's the net carbs. Net carbs are total carbohydrates minus dietary fiber.

I think it would be good if you reread the book.

Here is my chocolate craving solution:

                            1) Make Oopsie Rolls, but made them with a half packet of Splenda more and a dash of cinnamon and about half-dollar size, then

                            2) I made whipped cream with 2 oz heavy cream, 1 packet of Splenda and a small cap full of (very expensive) pure vanilla extract.

                            3) Spread a bit of the whipped cream on top of the sweetend oopsie roll and ... YUMMMMM!!

Georgiana, Yes, i know chocolate eggs are not in the book...i was just saying. I havent ate one, nor will I. I was just trying to understand. I eat LESS THEN 20 NET CARBS a day! All from vegetables or a little of condominents. If you read my post i just did earlier, i am on a STRICT induction and all my carbs are from vegetables only. And I have lost 5 lbs so far so obvisouly what im doing is working. I know we count the Net Carbs, so what I was saying, is if the chocolate egg has 9 grams of total carbs, >1 grams of diatary fiber, and 8 grams of sugar, the math would be 9g-(whatever >1g is, say .5). So that would make it like 7.5g of carbs with 8 of those grams be sugar. This is how i count all my foods. Like i said, it was just an observation, i seen this post and it made me think of it so im not the only one.
