    I need help! I started Atkins 6 days ago. Day 1 I lost almost 4 lbs. I have gained it back over the days. I am following the program and am exercising daily. Yesterday alone I had 16 carbs and walked over 5 miles, and I gained another pound!!!! I am at my witts end and am ready to quit. I did Atkins 2 yrs ago when I lost my first 170 lbs and I'm doing the same thing as before, I just can't shake these last 60 lbs. HELP!!!

    Welcome to ADBB!

    First off, stop thinking that what you did before is what will work now. This is now. You have a different body now.

    If you want to give us a typical day's eating, with quantities and net carbs, we can take a look.

      Well that first days lost most likely was water weight (provided you drank your recommended amount of water).

      I would give it the full 14 days before you weigh yourself. If you went from barely drinking any water, not eat healthy at all and not exercising to starting this plan your body is probably in "shock" mode.

      I would give it time to readjust yourself and make sure you are staying on plan and drinking a lot of water (even more than you think you need considering the amount of exercise).

      I know from a friends experience..she did atkins lost a huge amount of weight, stopped following the lifestyle and when she went back to it the second time, the weight loss was a lot different and slower.

      Good luck, stick with it and I think you'll see results soon!

        Exercise, especially if you haven't done alot for a while, can also cause weight gain, both in muscle and possibly water weight. When I started walking and lifting weights again recently, I was up a pound and stalled for about 2 weeks.

        I wouldn't obsess about losing weight consistently. If you're doing the right things, you should be good. Have your menu reviewed here to make sure. Also consider moving into OWL after Induction too.

          Here's yesterday

          2 eggs
          2 sausage patties

          1 hamburger patty
          pickles

          3 sf marshmellow peeps

          10 oz lean ground beef
          1 cup green beans

          3 sf jellos
          2 tbs whip cream

          3 oz cheddar cheese
          pickles

          4 bottles water

          I do not eat vegetables, and that is why I chose Atkins in the first place. If I didn't have to before and was able to lose weight then I shouldn't have to now.

          Thanks for the advice about not weighing, but it is an obsession of mine. I have weighed every day, sometimes 5-6 times a day since I first started Atkins 11.06.07 and I can't stop.

          Isn't OWL when you start adding carbs? How does that help you lose weight if you can't lose weight on less than 20? I stayed on induction most of the time I was on Atkins before, I would just add little things here and there and was able to keep the weight off. I've just recently decided to get these last 50-60 lbs off. But now I'm thinking that maybe I'm at the weight I'm supposed to be since I can't lose any more.

            OK you are overdoiong sweeteners. You need to cut out that sweet stuff NOW. Sugarfree candy is not on the induction list (for a good reason)

            And you need 3 cups of veggies spread out during the day. I mean you NEED to eat healthy. And in my opinion it is a priority.

              Then you didn't know what Atkins is about, I fear. Since 1972, vegetables have been an important part of Atkins.

              No vegetables means you're not doing Atkins.

              You add more net carbs on OWL, but you're eating them from Day 1 ... MOST of your daily net carbs come from Induction vegetables.

              That wasn't and isn't how Atkins works though. And you can see that it didn't really work for you, either.

              Why not try doing Atkins the way it's supposed to be before you jump to that conclusion. And yes, that will mean vegetables.

                You are very condecending liv. I say it DID work, if I lost 170 lbs and kept it off. I came here for help but you have let me know I need to just do my own thing and leave this place. Thanks for being so nice and helpful

                  I don't think Liv was condescending.

                  However, one thing about this board is that they follow 2002 DANDR very exactly. Anyone who has been here awhile or is a moderator mostly likely isn't going to say it's okay or condone eating off of plan.

                  They have seen probably thousands of people on this board and have a clear idea of what works for weight loss and maintenance LONG TERM.

                  If you come here seeking and help and solutions you will find very knowledgable advice and great support. But the facts tend to be the fact and if you are seeking help and not eating on plan they will tell ya (sometimes bluntly).

                    Since you are having trouble losing the last bit of weight, I would like to ask a few questions. I don't know as much as some on here who TRY to help, but I have picked up a few things. How tall are you? Is 150 a healthy weight for your age, gender and height? Just curious because that might be why these last few pounds are harder to lose than the first 170. Congratulations on losing the 170 lbs! That is awesome. I am sure if you just tweak your diet a little bit and give it time those pounds are sure to start dropping. Good luck to you on your journey. Don't give up....

                      I did not think that people would treat me as what I percieve to be rude or I would not have posted. I resented more than anything being told that it didn't work for me when I have kept off my weight, it's not like I gained any back, I just decided to try to get rid of the rest. I cannot eat veggies, I have tried. I just wanted help and if people are gonna be that blunt then I think I am in the wrong place. I am so frustrated and just wanted support and hope.

                        I am all for support and hope. But I know how hard it is to lose weight especially as you get closer to goal. And I think it will very hard to maintain weight if you do not eat vegetables. Those are essential on the Atkins programme that we follow and encourage others to follow.                           Actually, 150 isn't even what my target weight should be. I'm 5'4 and have been told to be 135 would be good. I just want to hit that 150 and I'll be happy.

                          And sorry liv! It was atkinsgal08 that offended me so much.

                          liv's reply actually made sense. I thought sugar alcohols were ok, I can def cut them out! (I was actually using the peeps to help move things along so to speak, I'm not constipated just not going.) What about the sf jello? I ate that from day 1 with no side effects.

                          Also, I thought I read that you could only have 1 cup gbeans a day, I can increase that if it's okay, but honestly, I CAN'T eat other veggies! I have tried all my life.

                          I've also read on here some people don't like cheese. What's the overall consensus on that?

                            I also stuggled with a lot of veggies and like you could manage the green beans, but then I started trying different ways to cook or prepare the other veggies and have come across alot that aren't so bad after all. You should check out this website and try searching for a few different recipes that include veggies, but don't really taste like it. I really like the Just Like Stuffed Baked Potatoes...made with cauliflower but actually taste pretty good.
