    Re: Help

    atkinsgal

I was offended by you saying that it didn't work for me. I HAVE kept off all 170 (give or take 1-2lbs depending on the time of month) that I lost. How did that not work for me?

      Re: Help

I apologize ... I didn't catch that you had kept 170 pounds OFF. Your stats of 354/207/150 and your phase of 14 day Induction were confusing to me. Your statement, "I started Atkins 6 days ago." also led me to believe you were starting at 354.

Your statement, "if I lost 170 lbs and kept it off." came after I had posted.

However, after apologizing for not tracking 100% with what you were saying, I think it's best if I just once again say, "Good luck with your journey".

        Re: Help

I can see how I'm confusing there, I should change it to my highest weight, my current, and my goal, not when I started keeping detailed records. if that were the case, it would be 376/207/150. I thought since I was starting over, that I was considered induction.

I just can't figure out why what worked so well before isn't working now. I will drop the peeps. Is sf gum okay? Still want to know about the cheese and now I'm questioning the whip cream, I looked and item 2 is sugar. Could those 2 (sf peeps and whip cream) be all that is holding me back?

          Re: Help

The sugar (or HFCS/corn syrup etc that sugar masquerades as) is probably not helping your efforts - better to get plain heavy cream and whisk it up with maybe one of your 3 allowed servings of sweetener instead.

As for trying to add more veggies - you are correct in that green beas are on the one-cup list but you can also have 2 cups from the 'salad vegetable' list which contains lots more variety than just boring old lettuce, and many of them are nicer cooked than raw

I often sautéé sliced red peppers in butter which reduces them in quantity and then add some cream to make a tasty sauce for meats. Some people fry radishes or turnips or jicama to make an interesting side dish too.

          From DANDR Chapter 11
          3. Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. You can eat approximately three cups-loosely packed-of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables (see the list of acceptable vegetables on pages 125-126).
Your page numbers in your copy of DANDR 2002 may be different but it is halfway through the chapter called 'Induction'

            Re: Help

I did atkins several years ago and lost 44lbs, most of which I kept off. My fiance and I just got engaged so we decided to try and slim down for the big day and I can tell you, from experience, that I am for sure staying away from any and all atkins products, and sugar free sweets. I stalled and never could get below 170 on them. My boyfriend as well couldn't lose when he did it before while having the whipped cream snack (also though, to be honest, he was eating out quite a bit which has tons of hidden carbs). During induction this time I'm being careful that we eat more veggies and no sweets! For the first time I've been able to break the 170 barrier and he's experiencing the least amount of cravings.

Maybe try different veggies and cut out all sf sweets, at least for induction, and see how your body reacts? I know it's hard, but I've dealt with plateau, cried tears when I try to get below and my body reacts by gaining weight, and I'm sure two weeks of strict atkins to see if you can get past your plateau will be totally worth it.

            Best of luck!!

              Re: Help

Maybe the big difference is that my book is not the new one, it is an old companion guide to the Atkins Diet. Will try some of your suggestions for my last week of induction before I quit. Still need to know consensus on cheddar cheese-seems to be mixed for most of what I've read.

What are the mixed opinions you have read about cheddar cheese?

                  Re: Help

From what I have learned on these boards is that 4 oz of cheese is ok, however, it causes stalls in some people. If you are not losing any weight, I would cut the cheese out on only have 1 oz for the remander of your induction to see if that helps. I would also cut out the SF jello because it has Aspartame and that is something Dr. Atkins said you should not consume.
I did atkins differently when it first came out too, no veggies etc. Once you read DANDR 2002, it makes sense, and you will see why this is the best way to do it. I understand your frustration with veggies though. Personally Im a fruit eater, not a veggie eater, so it was hard to give up fruits for now and eat veggies. After a week of it, i started to actually enjoy my salads, and love cut up peppers and cucumbers. Mashed cauliflower is really good too instead of mashed potatoes. I just add alittle heavy cream (within my allowances).

Dont give up yet, give it another chance. Im at the same weight approximately and would love to get to 150 too, although my ultimate goal is 120 where I should be for my height.

                  Good Luck!

                    elizellen-

some people think its okay and some don't. I'm going to stick with the cheese for a few days and cut out all the sf stuff and whipped cream.

                    lorimarie-

lol i say that eating pickles is eating veggies-after all they're cucumbers. that's my claim and i'm sticking to it!

it's so nice to meet people that know my struggles, i either have people in my life that don't need to lose weight or people that don't care if they do.

i lost 5 lbs last week, 1 3/4" in my chest, 1" in my waist and 1 1/2" in my gut so is it okay that my pounds weren't too good considering i was screwing up induction without realizing it?

                      Re: Help

when you say you have the old book are you doing the 1992 version or the 1972 version when you lost your 170 pounds? what you are consuming would fit the induction for 1992 cause we were allowed to make our own 20 gram limits for it.

cheese is allowed for atkins induction but some folk have issues with cheese either digestive or they over eat their atkins and the cals in the cheese negatively effect them. if you lost eating the cheese before then eat it now should be fine.

Was that walking program a new to your biody exercise load? if so that could cause you to add fluid weight pounds to your scale weight even as you are shedding body fat weight. BTW good for you getting your atkins exercise going.

In my opinion inches lost = fat lost where pounds lost could mean water, muscle or fat lost so losing inches is just as important as pounds if not more important.
