  • a question about non-veggie net carbs (NANY 2010)...

my other half and i have recently started atkins and following the NANY 2010 book...we're fine with the 15g of net carbs from foundation vegetables each day, but we are struggling to fill the remaining 5g of net carbs we need to make up our daily amount of 20g...

i can eat eggs and a certain amount of cheese (i'm not exactly a cheese lover, however i'm forcing myself to eat it), but my other half doesn't eat eggs...ever...therefore he's stuck with just cheese and that has a daily limit of 4oz...

i would really appreciate any suggestions you could give me on other foods that would fall into the remaining 5g of non-veggie net carbs...

There are usually built in hidden carbs in things like heavy cream, flax, sweeteners, eggs, shrimp and cheese, so chances are you are getting those carbs?

No kidding carbs are in just about everything. Like spices have carbs, dressings have carbs, mayo has carbs any thing processes has carbs. Coffee has carb, tea has carb. Even if labels say zero carbs - they have carbs and it adds up. Labels can say zero if is less that 0.5 per serving size.
On DANDR which we follow here there is no reason to add in things just to reach 20. The most important is to eat cleanly and get your veggies in.

I agree with the previous posters -

          1) Non-veggie carbs are way easier to come by than you think

          2) There is no reason to stress over not getting enough non-veggie carbs. Veggie carbs are the important ones to get; non-veggie carbs are the important ones to not get too many of.

thank you all for your responses...

so what you're basically saying is as long as we have our 15g of veggie net carbs a day and stick to the limits set out for cheese and cream then we should be ok...?

as first time atkineers we have been following, to the letter, everything as it's written in the new book, so were trying our best to match the 5g of non-veggie net carbs exactly...neither of us eat shellfish, processed foods or sweeteners and only have 3 cups of weak tea/coffee a day, so you can see how we were struggling to make ends meet with just our cream, cheese and egg quota...it's nice to know we can relax a little now in that department...

spices and herbs have carbs too and Dr Atkins thought garlic was the best carb for the nutriants food in his AFL book so don't forget to count any seasonings you use on your proteins.

The 'up to 20' net carbs is a maximum in DANDR, not an absolute requirement, so you are doing well according to my book!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
