  • I cannot freaking belive it!

    Hey Gang!
I have been "stalled" for about 2 weeks, not a change, none, zip, zilch, nadda!
SO yesterday I sat down and reexamined what I have been eating...the only thing that stuck out at me, was that in the past 2 weeks, things have been really busy and we have been eating out a lot. we have gone to applebees's. I have the same thing...salad dry, and a house sirloin with blue chees on it. Probably about 4 times wekk for the last 2 weeks, they are so good, I would order and extra to go and have it for breakfast the next day. SO I get online at Applebees.com and look to see if there is something in those steaks that woulde be stalling me. Now I am thinking, unless there is some small amount of sugar inthe seasoning the steaks should be a no brainer. Well the web site says no nutritional info available. I called corporate Applebees, and they tell me that I need to call the local restraunt to ask them to look on the box of staeks for the ingredents. I call the local resturant, and they go look. Not only is sugar the 2nd ingredent ( beef being the first ) but they are injected with a dextrose solution too!!! I am so angry!!! angry at myself for blindly thinking that a steak is a stek...and applebees for shootingit full of sugar!!!

so no more of those for me....anything there legal?
    Thanks
    for letting me vent.

    Amy

Wow! I would have been with you. A steak is a steak, is a steak. You would think that they would just add regular "legal" seasonings.

Sorry I cannot offer an alternative. But happy you discovered it so you (and all of us) will know for the future.

    :wave

It is amazing that restaurants can't just cook foods as close to their natural state as possible. This happens a lot believe it or not. They best thing to do is cook at home. :yes Although, everyone likes a day out of the kitchen every once in a while--it's sad we can't enjoy that day without paying a price :sadblinky

here's what I do when I want to eat out: Call my Mom, who lives on the other side of town, and she usually wants me to come over...then she asks me what I want to eat, and I email her my fav low carb recipe That way I don't cook and I get to go hang out with my family

Thanks for the warning! We got an Applebees nearby recently and we were planning to go. Now I'd be worried about any of the food.

No wonder why those steaks taste so darned good. That makes me so mad when I am sticking to plan and there is a hidden ingredients. I have been there twice, and won't be going back.

              Thanks for posting this!

OMG! They put sugar inside the steak! :yikes I never would have suspected that. From now on I'm going to ask if there is anything added to a steak before I order it.

Thanks for the great detective work and for sharing.

                  Amy - good detective work!!
Perhaps you could PM not2late with a copy of your findings so she can add this important information to her 'fast food links' thread in the 14-day induction forum.
This is one thing that should be available for newbies to know about :nod
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Don't Applebees have an "Atkins" menu? ensive I know they do in the one in Bloomington IN - it's the only way I will survive when I am with my fiance! It gives you the whole breakdown of the food, inc fiber etc... Maybe you could ask if your local one has it? :joy

I learned that the hard way too. I was regularily eating a type of 'tenderized, seasoned' frozen steaks last year. I never bothered to check the ingredients, till someone asked me what they use to tenderize them. Turns out it was dextrose and lactose (lactose???) I couldn't beleive it. I figured 'seasoned' was salt pepper etc.

Turns out they have 2g of carbs per 100g's (and i eat at least 200 i'm sure lol) not a huge amount of carbs..but i'm better off with steak i season myself.

Applebees is one of the restaurants that do not supply nutritional info on their site (and I'm always skeptical about those places). I'm happy that the corporate offices were cooperative with you. I'll add your finding to the Fast Food Links Sticky in the 14 Day Induction Forum.

We buy whole New York Strips and whole beef tenderloin... or whole Rib Eyes.... and simply season with garlic and pepper... mmmmmmm
