I tried an ATKINS bar

    I tried the bars back on my first round of atkins, and Russell Stover's and everything else out there.

    I get chocolate cravings sometimes. Usually around the end of the month. I've splurged and bought Droste unsweetened cocoa. It's almost 3 times more expensive than the others but worth it to me and a box lasts forever. It's head and shoulders above Hersheys, which I can't stand anymore.

    If I want something decadent, I take a level tablespoon of the Droste cocoa and mix it with 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream & a packet of splenda (packet if I use 3 tablespoons, little less if I use 2 - your mileage may vary on sweetening though). I stir it in a bowl and let it sit for a couple minutes because even when I use 3 tablespoons of cream it thickens up pretty well.

    I drop little blobs on wax paper and put in the freezer. To me, my Droste blobs taste 10 times better than any low carb chocolate I ever tried before. I've tried this with Hersheys and to me it tastes rancid.. but Droste.. heaven

    BTW, it tastes great just eating it out of the bowl too, it's so thick and rich, but I have a harder time with portion control when I do it that way.. the other way I can just grab a couple blobs

            The bars were my downfall and erased 3 YEARS of hard work (along with my lack of willpower)

            I am thinking of them as POISON this time around!

              just tried 2 of the russel stover cookie reeses thingies...they were very very good...did not taste low carb at all...a little overly sweet, but I think that's just because I'm not used to anything sweet anymore...we'll see how it goes lol.

                I got some of the Russell Stover's brand lc candy for my "quick fix" as well...and I'm not sure that it stalled me necessarily...but I found that my cravings have returned. Not cravings for sweets necessarily, just craving ANYTHING. It may be coincidence, but I'm gonna have to back off of them just in case. Too bad too..because they were pretty good in my opinion.

                  OK now I'm scared! I had them at 11 this morning and no poopie yet! I was kind of expecting it...and now I'm scared I digested all those sugar alcohols as carbs : ( even so there were only 12g of sugar alcohols, and my total carb intake today was only 10.5, so if I counted them that would only be 22.5g carbs, not enough to really call it a screw up or anything...so should i not eat these anymore? I wasn't planning on it all the time, just maybe once or twice a month....what do you people think? (yes I know it's against the induction rules...please spare me!)

                      which other problem? lol...maybe I am wrong...but I know one time at Friday's I ate a LC cheesecake, and about 2 hours later I was on the potty for a long time! and nothing was solid! (TMI I know...)

                        When I was on Atkins 2 years ago I remeber some discussion of sugar alcohols. The opinion seemed to be that those who got the laxative effect weren't usually stalled by them, but that if you didn't then you may be stalled. Something about some of us are able to digest them and some aren't, and the bathroom woes are indicative of NOT being able to digest them (and thus not impacting blood sugar, etc).

                        Thoughts?

                          hmm see that is what I thought I had heard, but it seemed that higgy was saying he thought it was something else...maybe I misinterpreted what he said...Funny I was actually hoping for that laxitive effect so I knew it wouldn't stall me....but I' thinking maybe since I just had 2 small cookie things, it wasn't enough to create the laxitive effect? hehe

                            I would think that the laxative effect would have occurred by now, if it was going to! A couple years ago, I did a modified "my way" atkins that involved a lot of low carb treats. I had diarrhea ALL the time (sorry, TMI). The more fake sugary the candy, the worse it was! Jelly beans are the WORST! That being said, I will probably try the SF chocolate again one day but NEVER those jellybeans! lol. Interesting about the stall-laxative effect link, though.

                            Maybe if you compare the 12g sugar alcohols to other SF treats...like, an Atkins Endulge reeses cup pack for example, to see how they compare...maybe 12g of sugar alcohols isn't much? It's been so long since I looked at that stuff, I have no idea.

                              yeah I know the kind I have has very low amounts of sugar alcohols..I have seen atkins brand bars with up to 31g of sugar alcohols! And I dunno about you guys, but I think Russel Stover knows a lot more about good tasting candies than the Atkins company...hehe

                                the ONLY Atkins product I've tried that I'd buy again are the Endulge mint wafer bar things... the rest is bad...
