    Cher, we should add jicama!!!!
I don't know what your problem is Finelly, but if you haven't noticed, this is the FIRST post I've made in this thread and more importantly, I don't post too often in the Extended Forum.

As for the post you quoted it was posted in the OWL Forum. So, if your intent was to imply that I "helped" someone else in Extended Induction, sorry, it failed miserably.

Here's the link to what quoted.

I'll stay in induction and just add more spinach.
    The Extended Forum description says:
    Atkins (Extended) Induction
Phase I of the Atkins diet. For members past the 14 day Induction period but not ready to move on to Phase II OWL. Note: We are strictly by the book in this forum (DANDR - 2002).
So you might want to take that into consideration when you make statements like "I'll stay in induction and just add more spinach"---especially when doing that is OWL Rung 1. Afterall, as a former Mod, you know how important it is to give proper advice to ADBB members in the proper forums.

BTW, if you have an problem with other Mods, I suggest you take it to them or to the Admins on this board. Don't take it out on me.

      To Cher,

I've seen messages from people who said that they did seem to have more energy when they had higher carb percentages, and it makes sense. Considering we're all different, some folks can no doubt get by on lower numbers than others.
It took me a long time to feel that 'energy burst' that I heard of others getting, and I got that when I moved into the veggie rung of OWL.
Remember that these are just veggies...I don't think anybody got fat by adding another cup of salad, or sauteed mushrooms to their meals..lol

Just re-read that last "relax" post and it sounds sorta snotty to me. I have already pm-med Not2 to apologize if I came across cranky earlier, but I want to do this publically, too.

It is really hard to "read" a person's tone of voice when they post. I did not intend, when I posted on this thread, to sound nasty - wasn't at all angry. Even when I'm frustrated, I find something to laugh about, but that doesn't come across, I know!

            Re: Higher Carb/Lower fat veggie?

I got lost in the back and forth stuff, but could you give us an idea of what veggies you eat now?

I tend to eat the same veggies because they are my favorites - broccoli, cauliflower, squash (yellow and zucchini), brussel sprouts, mustard greens, green beans, mushrooms and I buy the bags of salad. Oh and the occasional asparagus too.

If you are working out a lot, you may need to move to OWL and start adding more carbs to your diet. I had to do that or I couldn't get through my workouts without fizzling out. Everyone is different, so you can't guage your body by what works for others.

              Re: Higher Carb/Lower fat veggie?

For my part: I eat about 2 cups of spinach per day plus either zuchini or turnips. I'm averaging about 11-15 net carbs per day. No problem with workouts, but I'd like to get the carbs up a bit before I start OWL, especially when they are on the low size of 15. I had just wondered which veggies had the most carbs so I could substitute them in for the zuchini and turnips, or add a bit to experiment.

I'm glad you said this Finelly, because it IS TRUE, and therefore all of us when posting ought to think about how we word something or rather how it comes across... I nearly gave this thread a bad rating because I felt it looked like a public criticism... but I didn't because Finelly, you made an excellent point, which is all of us (who aren't mods/admins) need to think about what we say publicly as it can hurt people unnecessarily - I have the belief on this board, that if we can't say anything positive or useful, then don't say anything at all, you know?

I also wanted to add and thank one more time, TO ALL MODS
Thank you for volunteering and spending the time to reply to our posts - even if we tend to ask the same questions over and over again - thank you for your patience and understanding and whatever help/advice you give is much appreciated.

                    Cher,
I had a look at your Fitday, and I was going to suggest you have a wider variety of veggies than just the romaine but I see you do have other veggies than just that.
I urge you to work your way through the veggie list and branch out even more, ok? Each veggie offers you it's own mix of nutrients and fiber. Variety will help up your carb count and you won't get bored with your foods.
For instance, pumpkin is a nice addition as well, both as a savoury side dish (with butter, salt and pepper) or as a treat. ( I like to whip up some cream cheese and splenda once in a while with some pumpkin, cinnamon and vanilla then chill it really well. yum!)

Why do you want to get your carbs up before you go to OWL? When we start OWL we just add 5 more net carbs of those yummy induction veggies to the carb level we were eating our induction at. If you are a 15 net carber then you start the first week of OWL with 20 net carbs. If you are a 17 then you use 23 and if you managed to get to 20 net carbs then you use 25.

HAve fun in that great food experiment called OWL.

                        Re: Higher Carb/Lower fat veggie?

2Big - one reason is that occasionally my carbs are REALLY low and I don't think that's healthy for me. When I said I average 11-15, that's an average. Sometimes it's NINE. Given my workouts, I think I should be eating more.

I'm seriously considering moving up to the first rung of OWL and staying there for a long time, but before I do that, I wanted to just change some of the carbs I already eat to increase the amount. It would be convenient to know which of the veggies on the second list are the highest in carbs and fiber, that's all!

Cheryl, you may want to check out the carb counter for veggies on the Atkins site to give you an idea of some higher carb veggies:

I haven't read through pages 2 & 3 of this thread yet, but may I suggest Mock Mash using turnips or rutabaga as a lower fat, slightly higher-carbohydrate alternative to cauliflower? The texture is different - unusual in a good way. A little sweeter. I think you'd like it!
