  • Will Cheat Tonight - Advice

    Hi Folks,

On day 20 and things are going fne, BUT, my sister's fiance's stag / bachelor party is tonight which will mean some alchohol will be consumed.

Any advice on what's least damaging ???

I know there is a 0% carb cider - although I'm not a huge fan of it.

While alcohol isn't allowed on induction your beyond that. Drinks without fruit juice are the best bet and most are low carb, wine is fine and is light beer, rum, vodka, etc. If you drink in moderation you should be fine as long as you stay away from the pretzels and peanuts. LOL
Your body will burn off the alcohol before it burns fat, so keep hydrated

That's not quite true...He has choosen to extend his Induction phase beyond the minimum 14 days. So by default he has choosen to continue following the Induction Rules and eating only what's on the Induction Acceptable Foods list.

I get the feeling everytime I read threads in this forum that folks here think "Extended Induction" a brand new phase where you can eat whatever the heck you want as long as you stay below 20 net carbs. It isn't. "Extended Induction" simply means you're prolonging the Induction phase, including its foods list and rules.

My first thought, as a non-drinker, is why do you have to drink alcohol at all? What's wrong with making the choice to stick with your program and do what's best for your body? I admit I'm biased.

My advice: Drink several shots of vodka. Chase them down with some potato chips and perhaps some pretzels. If there's cake, have at least two pieces.

Then start Induction all over again from the beginning. I mean, why not. Sure, you'll have wasted a few weeks, but getting drunk with your buddies is worth it.

Repeat the whole thing again the next time there's a party.

I never drink either. Can't stand the stuff! (Even fruity drinks don't do it for me; just give me a low-carb smoothie.) Besides, I'd rather have something to eat that I've been craving; I just don't get anything out of drinking and never have.

When I choose to drink I go for white wine & soda or vodka and diet lemonade.
Between each alcoholic drink I make sure I have a non alcoholic drink.
Both drinks look the same so nobody takes note...... until they realise im a lot more sober than they are!!!
When you get home drink plenty of water and double your water allowance the following day.

I have always loved my booze, but gave it up when I started this WOE. I HAVE slipped up and had a few drinks but always flavored vodka and seltzer. **** I even went to a bar and ordered just plain seltzer a few times. I find as long as I have a cup in my hand, regardless of if it's filled with beer, booze, water or air, I am having just as good a time as everyone else and I do NOT feel deprived. Plus, people THINK I am drinking, so it's my excuse to act like a nut. I have also had Michelob ULTRA. 2g/carbs per beer, but vodka/seltzer is better at 0.

Alcohol affect each of us differently. It doesn't stall me but I still try to avoid it.

I'm probably too late for tonight and hope you're having fun, but some thoughts for the next time...
                        ----------------------------
There's nothing wrong with volunteering to be a designated driver. They'll all think you're sacrificing, but you can have just as much fun.

As the others said, even if you're drinking water, probably no one will notice. And anyone who presures others into drinking all too often has a drinking problem of their own. www.soberrecovery.com probably has tips on having fun without drinking.

I understand wanting to toss back a few with your friends, but next is the wedding and then other special events too. Would you rather drink with your friends or learn to have fun with them without drinking while getting down to a buff new you? Which one will the ladies be admiring more? (lol, please don't answer that last question with beer goggles on! )

Vodka and club soda - almost nothing. get it with lime.

Low carb beers: IC Light, michelob ultra both have about 2.5 carbs. Miller Lite has about 5. Guinness has about 5 (yes, it's true). Rumor has it there is a really good Beck's low carb, and my personal favorite is rolling rock Green Light (also about 2.5 carbs). The last one tastes like club soda practically.

Make sure you drink a lot of water, and expect to gain some pounds the next day, but they come off relatively easily. It's just water retention from being dehydrated. You WILL have a worse hangover b/c of the dehydration and it is very likely that your tolerance is lower, so be careful and drink lots of water.

Well despite best intentions the night went on till about 5am and I am SHATTERED.

My weekly weigh in / measure up was this morning and I am still seeing the inches peel off. And people are noticing !
I'm now at 10.5" down so will have now probs staying away from the booze till the sister's wedding.

Thanks for all the feedback folks.

The people here are really cool.

You can drink rum with coke zero, both have 0 carbs. A friend, who is out of induction, switched to this from light beer, and she says, she has not gained any weight back.
