  • My dog died tonight

Our 13 year old dog has been sick for the last three weeks, we got a call from the vet today, they said he had a cancer tumor on his liver. He was so bad last night, he fell down the stairs. We decided to have him put to sleep. Me, my husband and my daughter & son were with him when he died. I held him close and told him that as soon as I get to heaven, I'm want to see him! This is the first time we have ever had to have a pet put to sleep and this was the best dog in the world. We came home and got drunk! I had two rum & cokes. Yes, I cheated and I'm drunk, I'll get back on Atkins tomorrow. I've been doing well not comforting myself with food, but this was too much!

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally!

I am so sorry Chriss!!! I know what you are going through. It is one of the hardest things we have to do as a pet owner is making that decision. The next hardest is the pain of being there while it is being done. I, too, have chosen to stay with my pets during this time and while it is very painful to my heart I am glad that I got to show my love and thanks for the joy they have brung me. So good on you and yours for doing that for your dog!! And know that you saved him so much suffering. Hugs to you.

I really feel for you...we had do put our sweet Moochie down on the 29th. It's a heartbreaking experience and we're still in a state of shock. I've never had to do that before as Moochie was really the only pet I've ever had, and I didn't think I had it in me to be there, but I'm so grateful we had the opportunity to soothe her and comfort her all the way to the end.

I just read something at the Rainbow Bridge site (you may not be ready to visit it for a while, but it is a very loving place to go http://www.rainbowbridge.com/)
This is directly from the site

"I have sent you on a journey to a land free from pain, not because I did not love you, but because I loved you too much to force you to stay. "

I urge everyone to give their pets an extra hug and to donate to your local SPCA.

        Take care, Elsie

                  Re: My dog died tonight

I am soooooooooo very sorry. Losing a pet at any age is like parting with a child. I've grieved over a couple of cats we lost; one to cancer, the other one died suddenly and he was only 4 years old. We came home and he was dead. He hadn't been sick at all. We will never know what happened. I think I cried for a very long time.

Allow yourself to grieve; don't apologize for it. Those who love you understand and those who don't understand don't love you.
