    Re: My dog died tonight

Chriss, I know your pain, we lost two of our cats this year. They were both 12 years old. One we lost to cancer, the other one I had to the vet the night before she died and we don't know what she died from. It is very painful, Just keep the loving memories.........Dawn

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. They are like children (little fur-kids)... we've loved and lost 3 of our precious kitties a few years ago and is it heartbreaking (((america)))

            Re: My dog died tonight

Putting him to sleep was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my adult life. He was my shadow, he followed me wherever I went, I can't stand to be in this house without him! I keep looking for him and listening for him. This house seems so empty without him. I think when my kids went off to college, I didn't have as much empty-nest as a lot of women describe because I still had my dog Dave and he was like another child to me. This house feels soooo empty. My husband wants to rescue a boxer puppy that is about 8 months old. I am thinking about it. What do you guys that have lost a pet think? Is it too soon, or should I just jump in to puppyhood again?

              Re: My dog died tonight

I think that if you are getting him JUST to fill the void it will not work and it will be hard to bond with him as he will not nor ever could replace Dave. But if you go to meet the boxer first and see what you think and feel about him and you feel that you have love to give this homeless guy for who he is that it will be fine. Your heart will know when you see him. You will always love Dave and no other dog will ever replace the special place he holds in your heart but that doesn't mean that you can't love another one...like kids...the same but different.

So I say...go and look and spend some time with this dog and see what your heart says. Some shelters may even let you take the dog home for a couple of days to see how it fits in with your family.

I do want to commend you that you are looking to a shelter and giving thought to rescue one of the many many animals there! Good on ya!
