My friend David was born & raised in New Orleans. If you had a conversation with him, you'd swear he was from NYC. Go figure.

My Mom was born and raised in New Orleans also and when she met my Dad's family in KY they thought she was from NY. Somehow it is the native New Orleanian accent. I don't have that accent, (I was raised in Slidell, a suburb of NO) and when I interviewed for a job (1989) in NC I heard one lady say under her breath, "She sounds like a D___ Yankee!"



By the way, the Cajuns aren't in NO, they are more south and south west in the lower parishes.

kkat55 is right, I've known a few people from that area and they sound like they are from Boston or New York. Their accents are totally different from what someone would consider a "southern" accent. I watched a show about a family living on a bayou and their accents were so neat...and strange! And I definitely know my Southern accents, I'm Alabama born and raised! I guess the proper term would be that they have a different dialect, as there are many different dialects in the Southern region of the US.

As for Emeril, I think he's annoying and a show-off, but my MIL loves him. Paula Deen is my favorite foodnetwork cook. Her accent seems a little contrived as well, but there's no sense in not laying it on thick when you're doing a little down home cooking.

Allie, my mother is a Paula Deen fan too. I think she's okay, but my favorite is Tyler Florence. HE IS SO HOT!! He does "Food 911" and now he's also on another show called "How to boil water" (both on Food Network)

Once I get skinny again, I'm gonna try to get him to come "help" me cook something! I know that there's something that I could learn from him!! (maybe he'll help me make dinner and then breakfast the next morning?? LOL Yeah Baby!)
