Re: 14th day, small to mild ketosis, am I through induction?

Great, isn't it. I am a similar height to you and started at about 288lbs. I lost 24 lbs on induction and felt absolutely UNBEATABLE! And I still do. You are right about trying it years ago if I'd known how easy it is.

I've been on it 14 weeks and have lost 21 kgs (about 47 lbs) all up. I tried OWl but decided to go back to a level of about 30 carbs per day for a while. When I've lost about 50 kgs (I started with 71 to lose in total) I'll start to seriously move up the OWL rungs and see how I go.

Keep up the good work and let us now your (shrinking) statistics. A pic would be nice too.

I just realized how much I seem to avoid being in front of the camera. I've got 4 kids so I'm usually behind it. Here's the best pic I can find, and I'll take another in the next few days to compare.

woo hoo weigh to go Ben!!

As to how much to eat Dr Atkins told us. Eat ewnough food to satisfy your hurnger at the time you are eating and STOP even if yo have food on the plate room in your belly or carbs in your budget.
If you do that and really listen to your body you will be a very successful life long goalie.

Dr Atkisn also says if and only if you are fatigued and feeling tired should you eat more foods cause you are not eatting enough.

so use those two guidelines and figure out what your food intake should be on a hunger bases and remember as you lose weight you will need less calories to do the exact same stuff cause it takes less energy to move your lighter body. womwn lose about 4.5 cals a pound lost and guys a little more then 6cals a pound lost.

Ben, you've made AMAZING progress. Good for you! Be aware though that in the next few weeks your loss may slow down a bit - it definitely did for me - but that that's normal and if you hang in there it will speed up again just when you want to give up. 25 pounds in 20 days is astonishing, there's no doubt, and it's a great boost to you on this new way of eating, but even if/when it slows down a little, hang in there. The results are worth it, I promise!

You are doing really good, and your metabolisim is on the higher side based on what you are telling us.

Just a warning, the 3rd week is usally a slow week for losing if any is lost at all...Try not to weigh frequently because sometimes it can become disheartening.

I think I'm there. I'm bouncing all over the place right now. I've lost and gained 10 pounds in the last 3 days, and I haven't changed anything I'm doing. It's just shocking to see the numbers fly down, then go back up without reason. I kept trying to figure out where I was going wrong. Thanks for the input.

                      Thanks Eli !

If I were you I wouldn't weigh again for another 1-2 weeks at least...try to set a weigh in day...that way you are prepared.

oh and remember to weigh in the morning before breakfast and without any clothes on.

Yeah, I figured that part out. I'm doing the extended induction since its working so well. I don't want to screw anything up by making changes. I can't, however, stay away from the scale. I'm going for the 259 by Monday. That would be 26lbs. in 25 days. I hit as low as 260, but I jumped back to 265. I'll blame the 3-4 oddball week thing. BTW, my wife says she notices a difference.

yep the sclaes will only tell you how the force of gravity is effecting your total mass and eany changes in that total mass. Use your tape measure to see how you are morphing on Atkins your fat mass is shrinking away, your muscle mass is growing and your fluid mass is in a state of flux do to the complicated biochem reactions and thier aversion to changes going on things like needed to maintain internal pressures so fluid id plumped into areas where fat masses are shrinking until your body 's aversion to the biochem interferance of the added fluids exceeds those and yoiu release chems to release the fluids and poof as we Atkineers say you got a visit from the whooshie fairy and overnight you drop a large amount of weight 2-3 pounds for most folk.

Happy low carbing. Kepp reading chapter 13 in your DANDR and answering those questions so you know when it is time to move to OWL before you have a high carb blow out cause you got bored with the foiods.

I've lost about 4 inches, according to my belt. My pants are falling off so something's really happening. Now I've got to try to find some of my old jeans to see if I can fit in them. I've read CH13 3 times, just to see if I missed something. It's not a question of getting bored with the food, I am. I'm just not willing to give this up for anything. Not even fudge at an X-MAS party. I'm fine with the whole "I can't have that and don't want it anyway" motto. The only time I've caved in so far was when a co-worker brought in Sloppy Joe's at work for a party. I gave in and had 2 spoonfuls, no bun. It was soooo yummy!!!! It was my birthday party, and she was already upset because I didn't have any cake.

                                Hi Ben
Although it is good to set goals, please dont get too hung up on 'I will lose XX by mm/dd' ones!!

I often feel is it better to set goals that you can have some control over rather than ones that your body's reactions will control.

Why not set a goal like 'I will follow the plan without cheating over the holidays' or 'I will do xx minutes of exercise every day this week and xx + 10 minutes next week' etc. These are attainable by your efforts, not the whims of your body!
