  • How much sugar is ok?

I just woke up and I feel like I have been sucking on a metal soother all night! I understand that we can eat dressing that has no more then 1 gram of sugar. Does that mean we can eat sausage just as long as it has no more then 1 gram of sugar also? I'm having a hard time finding breakfast sausage.
    Thanks

Added sugars are a no-no for this diet. There are foods that naturally contain sugars, like vegetables and some dairy. Those sugars are allowed.

      That depends...

Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.
So read the ingredients. Does it list sugar or any of the other names sugar goes by (dextrose, corn syrup solids, fruit juice, fruit juice concentrates, molasses, etc.)? If it does contain added sugar, it's not okay. If there is no added sugar, then it is okay per the Induction Acceptable Foods list. Yes, yes, yes, I do realize that some people can and will eat these foods and will report no problems with their weight loss, but your individual mileage my vary.

I think aiming for no sugar and making your own dressing and tossing together your own sausage...(come check the cooking chat we can show you how) ...is your best bet..but that is me thinking again

Ok well I have been using Kraft 3 cheese dressing 1 carb and 1 gram of sugar. The Carb Options dressing has seemed to disappear I can't find it anywhere. But so far so good six days and I lost seven pounds.

            Thanks

Cheerycoke, Kraft's new South Beach Ranch Dressing has no added sugar, but the Italian does. I haven't tasted it yet, so I can't comment. Maybe someone else can tell you.

A very easy dressing is to take some olive oil, about a 1/4 cup, and a splash of vinegar, and a packet of splenda. Its really pretty good.

Marie's dressing has no sugar and no trans fat. They make a great blue cheese dressing. You can find the dressing cold in the vegetable aisle.

Try Ken's Bleu Cheese Dressing, its yummy and one carb for 2 tablespoons. You can find sausage with no sugar, try Bob Evans brand.

Order online if you really can't find anything. I order tons of weird foods online that I can't find/don't feel like paying for in stores (spices, especially). Amazon.com is a reputable seller and has nearly everything I need.

Re: How much sugar is ok?

They pour sugar and salt into everything these days. It's bad in UK, but I think worse in the States.

Betty is right - sugar is toxic.

Have there been any studies looking at the price of sugar over three centuries and the prevalence of diabetes and obesity?

Here is the start of a trail:

Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                          he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Atkins makes exercise mandatory - I took up cycling - see last pics at 203lb.

Hi Cherrycoke! Can you get Renee's dressings? The ceasar, ranch and feta cheese dressings don't have sugar added. I haven't checked the poppyseed one. Don't get the light ones, get the regular ones. They are refrigerated in the produce area. It seems to be everywhere that I've been - even the small towns near our cottage, so you should be able to find it. I also like Kraft classic herb - it's basically oil and vinegar with some herbs added (for those of us who don't have time to make it from scratch).
