  • Pork Rinds

First off.. I have to say I never in my life thought a pork rind would touch my lips but here I am eating them as I write this. I was actually wondering if anyone had any recipes with pork rinds in them? I remember on the old recipe board they were used in a few recipes & I was curious to try one. I think they were almost used as a substitution for breadcrumbs. I did check the recipe board before posting. If I really try not to think about them too hard I can almost believe I'm eating chips.

Yes... they can be used as breadding apparently, though I've never tried. Also there's a recipe around for a morning cereal that has pounded (in a pestle and mortar) rinds with cream, cinnamon and splenda. Sounds terrible, but it's actually rather good!

That sounds... interesting & slightly scary. Where would I find this recipe?

Crush the pork rinds and put into a bowl. Add just enough cream to the crushed rinds to make sort of a "paste" and then add a bit of cinnamon and splenda. Microwave until warm and mushy.

This tastes really good, just don't inhale the smell. No matter how you prepare them, you can't get rid of that pork rind odor!!!

            Re: Pork Rinds

I made mozella sticks using unflavored crushed pork rinds instead of breadcrumbs. Have to tinker with the heat of the oil a bit but but they came out surprisingly well.

You gotta laugh at how desperate we get. Who was the first person who said "I am so desperate for cereal that I will crush pork rinds w/ cream and cinnamon and see what happens."

                  Re: Pork Rinds

You may think I'm nuts, but I also used to take pork rinds and mix up some clarified butter and cinnamon, and just drizzle it over them. Once it soaked in a bit, it made for a pretty "sweet" snack. Not too bad for me.

Oh, and pork rind odor...LOL, when you live a redneck southern lifestyle, I think you just learn that's the way a porkrind is supposed to smell.

I have a Pork Rind Pizza in the oven right now. It's one of our favorites! You wouldn't think it would be good, but it's AMAZING! Here's the link to the recipe:

I also use crushed pork rinds as a bread crumb sub in my meat loaf. It always turns out moist and delicious!

Use pork rinds to scoop vegetable cream cheese. Also, we use pork rinds crumbled up in meat loaf. It gives it a unique flavor.

                        Thanks Guys!!!

This is exactly what I hoped for when I started the thread. Trying new things keeps me from getting bored. I'll probably try all of these at some point.

I made fried chicken the other day with some pork rinds, old bay seasoning and parmesean cheese. I just coated the chicken in egg with a little mayo mixed in, and shook a bag with the breading mixture. It turned out pretty well!!!
