    Re: Bacon, Look Out!

*** Boonie (Aka Susan) takes a bow***

A little logic for the as yet undesided grease dumper-down-the-drainer: somewhere down the length of pipe, even the hottest liquid grease will reach a cold region, cool down, and get nice and sticky as it slowly solidifies, and line the pipes.

You can test this by drinking hot soup in which there is some grease or butter through a straw. When you're done, the straw will be coated inside and out with a layer of it.

Susan, you're banned for always being right!

OK, so thanks for the info. I feel like a dummy. I'll stop pouring grease down the drain.

        Wrong thread, Miss P

(But ...((don't shoot, Grant!))) ...if you must do it, be sure you run hot grease down hot drain, like after draining sink of hot soapy water, and follow with more hot water. It'll have a better chance of making it all the way to the sewer before it gels LOLOL)

          Re: Bacon, Look Out!

I do the microwave cooking now too--that way I can just toss everything in the trash. When I used to pan-fry bacon, I always saved the grease in a coffee mug (don't worry, I wasn't planning on drinking coffee out of it afterwards, yuk!) and I used the fat to cook stuff like veggies, or turkey bacon which has no fat on its own.

Don't worry, my mamma taught me to NEVER put grease down the drain!!!

get half an empty coconut shell and pour your bacon fat into it adding bird seed Then hang it in the garden- your birds in the garden will love you for it! - so will the drains!

I keep a throw away plastic container (margarine container, store bought), what ever you have, I drain my bacon fat, sausage fat, any kind of grease into it, cover and use till its full. Then put in the trash!
